Joint Meeting of the City of Denton City Council and the Denton Independent School District
Board of Trustees on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at 12 noon in the Council Work Session
Room.
PRESENT: Mayor Brock; Mayor Pro Tem McNeill; Council Members Kamp, Montgomery,
Mulroy, and Thomson.
ABSENT: Council Member Redmon
1. Mayor Brock called the meeting to order and announced a quorum of the Council was
present.
2. The Council received a report and held a discussion regarding an update on the outdoor
leardng center.
Howard Mart'm, Assistant City Manager, presented an update on the Clear Creek Natural
Heritage Center. Trails were being cleared and maintained for public use. There was a
possibility that additional property could be acquired in the area. Staff was also working on
obtaining grants for wetland mitigation.
3. The Council received a report and held a discussion regarding an update on bond issues.
The DISD presented a video on their bond package. Discussion included where future growth
would be in the district and the anticipation that commercial development would occur around
the new growth.
4. The Council received a report and held a discussion regarding an update from DISD
regarding the athletic center.
Dr. Braswell, Superintendent of Schools, stated that the new athletic stadium was almost
complete. Long Road would be upgraded and opened by September 3fa. Opening ceremonies
were being planned and markefmg strategies for the stadium were being considered.
5. The Council received a report and held a discussion regarding an update from DISD
regarding enrollment.
DISD staff presented opening day attendance figures. There was a 5% growth over last year
after the 1st day of school. It was felt that attendance would increase during the next several days
due to late arrivals.
6. The Council received a report and held a discussion regarding an update on upcoming
legislative issues.
Dottie Palumbo, Assistant City Attorney, presented information on possible legislative issues. It
was discussed that cooperation on the local level among the various entities should be
maintained.

7. The Council held a discussion regarding an annual calendar.
Consensus of the Council and Board of Trustees was to establish meeting times on a yearly
basis, when possible. Wednesda,Ythat noon was a preferred day and time. The next two meetings
would be held on November 17 with the DISD hosting and February 9, 2005 with the City
hosting.
8. Determine next meeting date.
This item was considered with Item #7.
9. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 1:50 p.m.
