2015-02-02 Committee on Citizen Engagement MinutesCOMMITTEE ON CITIZEN ENGAGEMENT MINUTES February 2, 2015 After determining that a quorum was present, the Committee on Citizen Engagement convened in a meeting on February 2, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. in the City Council Work Session Room at City Hall. PRESENT: Council Member Roden, Council Mernber Gregory, Council Member Ryan, George Campbell (CM), Bryan Langley (ACM), Alison Ream (CMO), Kevin McGinnis (PCO), Robby Stengel (PCO), Tonya Demerson (Reprographics) 1. Council Member Roden called the meeting to order at 9:03 a.m. 2. Receive a report and hold a discussion regarding voter engagement initiatives. Alison Ream gave a status update on the progress of website upgrades. Bryan Langley discussed the differences between VoteDenton.org and VoteDenton.com. VoteDenton.com is managed by Denton County and has more information such as registration status and other elected officials specif�c to the voter's district. Dalton asked if the City could link to either of those sites. Ream stated that it may be possible to include the information from VoteDenton.org into the City's site, McGinnis stated that the current City linking policy prohibits linking directly to the external site. Council Member Dalton suggested a disclairner page. Ream stated that a disclaimer page would require a revision to the City's linking policy. Council Member Roden stated that the City should be able to have some of the same information available without a link. He suggested that the election information be on the City Council page where it may be easy to iind. Council Member Ryan stated that the old election information was still on the website and the next election information should be there. He also suggested that a sample ballot be posted on website after March 2 with the City's information. Roden asked that the committee report back at the next meeting regarding the ability to embedded voting data. Ream stated the City's past voter engagement efforts included slides on DTV and social media outreach. She stated that the City could have a more comprehensive campaign that could include social media outreach and a utility bill insert. Ryan suggested that information current information is added to new election page and a link to Denton County's site (VoteDenton.com) prior to City updates. Langley stated that a new election page can be added and updated with information as it is available.
