4Hotel Occupancy Tax Committee Meeting

7After determining that a quorum was present, the Hotel Occupancy Tax Committee convened into an
8Open Meeting on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in the Finance Conference Room, City of
9Denton City Hall, 215 E. McKinney Street, Denton, Texas.

25Minutes were approved as written by Councilmember Chris Watts and seconded by Pete Kamp.

27AGENDA ITEM 2: REVIEW, DISCUSS AND VOTE ON A REQUEST FROM THE DENTON
28CONVENTION AND VISITOR BUREAU (CVB) MADE THROUGH THE DENTON CHAMBER OF
29COMMERCE REGARDING PROMOTIONAL FUNDING FOR SUPER BOWL XLV TO BE HELD IN
30ARLINGTON IN 2011.

33Manager and its ordinance to request the $15,180 in funding. Committee members discussed the $15,000
34in hotel occupancy tax contingency funds, the updated fund balance and acknowledged that if funding
35was approved there would not be any contingency funds for the remainder of the fiscal year.

37Councilmember Moreno asked for an explanation of expenditures related to the $15,180 request. Kim
38Phillips, CVB Vice-President, was present and described the four county participation with the North
39-market media center
40by using the Denton Airport for helicopter and small charter plane usage along with the lower cost of
41hotel room rates to fill our local hotels.

43Jerry Drake, Deputy City Attorney, advised the Committee that there were not stipulations in the Tax
44Code 351 or Attorney General opinions on such a matter. He furth
45current hotel occupancy taxes are earmarked for only advertising as allowed by the Tax Code, thus,
46funding the contingency for advertising would be an appropriate expense.

48Councilmember Watts motioned to allocate $15,000 in hotel occupancy tax contingency funds to the
49advertising budget of the CVB. Councilmember Moreno seconded the motion and the motion passed
50unanimously.
