2020-09-08 Committee on the Environment MinutesCITY OF DENTON COMMITTEE ON THE ENVIRONMENT MINUTES September 8, 2020 After determining that a quorum was present of the Public Utilities Board of the City of Denton, convened in a Regular Meeting on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 1:02 p.m. in the Work Session Room at City Hall, 215 E. McKinney Street, Denton, Texas. PRESENT: Chair Council Member Keely Briggs, Council Member Paul Meltzer and Council Member Jesse Davis ABSENT: None Note: Chair Council Member Keely Briggs, Council Member Paul Meltzer and Council Member Jesse Davis participated in the work session and regular meeting via video/teleconference under the provisions allowed by the Texas Government Code Section 551.127. REGULAR MEETING 1. ITEMS FOR INDIVIDUAL CONSIDERATION A, COE20-011 – Consider approval of the minutes of June 25, 2020 Board Member Meltzer moved to approve item 1A. Motion seconded by Board Member Davis, Motion carried. YES (3): Committee Member Keely Briggs, Jesse Davis and Paul Meltzer NO (0): B. COE20-012 - Receive a report and hold a discussion on the regional air quality update and collaboration summary. J.T. Douglas gave the update and summary with a detailed presentation. There were questions by the committee members, staff answered. C. COE20-013 – Receive a report, hold a discussion, and give staff direction regarding an update on recent and upcoming projects in the Solid Waste and Recycling Department. Brian Boerner started the presentation regarding upcoming projects. Tina Ek continued the presentation talking about the interactive voice response system, followed by Allison Wing that introduced the ‘Smart Routing System’. Boerner continued with the Comprehensive Management Strategy. There were comments and questions by the committee members. Update of the RISE Coalition 2. Update on the Sustainability Advisory Committee 3. Action Items - Matrix Kenneth Banks went through the management updates. 2. CONCLUDING ITEMS Briggs asked if Carbon Reduction would be brought back. Briggs also asked if there needed to be a change in the ordinance for notifications on mosquito spraying.
