WHEREAS,June is the recognized anniversary of the Stone\vaII uprising in New York as the
beginning of the modern Lesbian, Gay. Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning,
Intersex, and /\sexual (LGBTQI A+) equality nlovenlent; and
WHEREAS,During the month of June. LGBTQI A+ Pride Month is celebrated nationally and
recognizes the tireless efforts of LGBTQI A+ and allied groups who have pursued
equality for all citizens in Texas and this cc>untIl' i and
WHEREAS,on June 27, 201 5, the Supreme Coun of the United States, in the case of Obergefell,et al. v. Hodges, Director, Ohio Depannrent of Health, et al., ruled that the
Constitution grants same-sex couples the same right to marry that a heterosexual
couple has; ,Ind
WHEREAS,on June 15, 2020, the Supreme Court decided in Bostock v. Clayton that Title VIIof the Civil Rights Act of 1964 covers sexual orientation and gender identity,
nlaking it illegal for enrployers to discrinlinate based on sexual orientation and
gender identity.
NOW, THEREFORE,I, Gerard Hudspeth. Mayor of the City of Denton, Texas, do hereby declare and
proclain1 the month of June 2022 as
“DENTON LGBTQIA+ PRIDE MONTH”
in the City of Denton, and encourage all citizens to celebrate the work of theLGBTQI A+ colnnlunity in pl-onloting diversity and tolerance in our community
and throughout our country.
