This is a note to explain the donation from the campaign fund to Decriminalize Denton on June
16th,2022,noted on Schedule F1.
At the end of the last campaign for the office holder in 2020,we had a substantial amount of
funds left over. The vast majority of our campaign funds for the 2020 campaign had been donated
to us by Grassroots Law Project, a political action committee affiliated with ActBlue. The amount
donated by the Grassroots Law Project to the campaign was$5,000.most of which went to
purchasing advertisments in the Denton Record-Chronicle.
As the office holder decided that she was not going to run again for Place 5 in 2022,we discussed
what we should do with the leftover funds. According to Texas Ethics Commission guidelines, a
campaign can return funds that were donated to it by a person or organization. Initially,we decided
that the thing to do would be to return the remaining funds to ActBlue;in the end,it was decided
specifically that we wished the money to go to Decriminalize Denton,which is supported by
Ground Game Texas,also affiliated with ActBlue.After contacting the Texas Ethics Commission in
May,who confirmed for us that it was okay for us to return the remaining funds,and reaching out
to Grassroots Law Project,who approved of the plan for us to donate this amount specifically to
Decriminalize Denton,we closed our campaign's account at Point Bank,and transferred the money
to Ground Game Texas,with explicit instructions for it to be channeled to Decriminalize Denton.
