SW & Recycling Bus Acct Coord - GP3117 - SOLID WASTE - ADMINISTRATION City of Denton Job Description Title: Solid Waste & Recycling Business Account Coordinator Position ID: GP3117 Department/Division: Solid Waste & Recycling Reports to: Solid Waste & Recycling Business Program Development Officer FLSA Designation: Exempt Safety Sensitive: No DOT: No Definition: Responsible for assisting the Solid Waste Department’s commercial account customers with establishing adequate levels of waste and recycling collection services, providing waste reduction, recycling and waste disposal information, and ensuring customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities: Responsible for increasing Denton’s commercial recycling accounts to help obtain City and Departmental waste diversion goals Assists new and prospective Denton Commercial Solid Waste and Recycling Customers to set up adequate waste and recycling services Performs waste audits for current Solid Waste Customers to ensure proper levels of waste collection and recycling services Submits bids for large commercial recycling accounts Responds to requests and inquiries from customers regarding Commercial Solid Waste and Recycling services Assists Solid Waste Field Support and Utilities Customer Service to investigate Commercial Solid Waste and Recycling service issues; ensures high levels of customer satisfaction Collaborates with Commercial Solid Waste and Recycling staff to design and deliver optimum waste collection service Maintains knowledge of local, state, and national recycling vendors to ensure market availability and best pricing for current and new commodities Works with Solid Waste customers to ensure proper recycling and waste disposal techniques Educates commercial customers and general public regarding the benefits of waste reduction and recycling Consults with developers and planners during initial phases of new projects to ensure adequate planned space for waste and recycling collection services in commercial buildings Performs special research studies, which include compiling data, analyzing results, preparing reports or illustrative materials, and writing and/or telling success stories Assists during construction phases of projects to establish construction/demolition waste disposal and recycling practices and assists customers with green building projects and required reporting Provides information to outreach staff regarding Solid Waste and Recycling’s needs when requests are received for public information/education projects Attends classes, workshops, and meetings to keep up with current trends and opportunities in recycling. Assists with program budget development; ensures program expenditures within budget Assists with the development of formal and informal presentations to City staff, City management, City Council, and community groups and organizations Works with Denton businesses to promote recycling Communicates effectively to diverse audiences both in person and electronic communication channels Maintains regular and punctual attendance Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Biological, Chemical, or Earth Sciences; or Public or Business Administration, or related fields, and a minimum of two (2) years of work experience in solid waste or recycling or similar industry OR High School diploma or GED equivalent with six (6) years of experience in solid waste or similar industry OR Any combination of education, experience, and/or certifications that will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to be effective Core Competencies: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers Ability to perform all job duties in a manner that is consistent with the City of Denton’s mission to be a leader among cities in delivering outstanding quality services and products through citizen involvement, innovation and efficient use of resources Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license within 30 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must be able to work outside of regular business hours, including weekends as required Must be able to work in all types of weather Preferences: Bilingual in Spanish and English USCGB LEED Associate Municipal Solid Waste certification Zero Waste certification P rior sales or customer service experience in the recycling and solid waste industry and knowledge of commodities pricing, bidding commercial collection services, service delivery systems, and recycling market opportunities; Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
