June 10, 2023 John Burnley Hobson Legacy Day Prodamation by the Otapor of the Up of Menton, Memo To all to Whom these preanto shall come, (breetingo: WHEREAS, John Burnley Hobson came to Denton County in 1885 along with members of his extended family; and WHEREAS, John married Ada Rosella Baxter of Boliver in 1886 and established a farm along what is now Hobson Lane, raising 9 children to adulthood; and WHEREAS, John was a member of the Denton Chamber of Commerce,working to improve the road between Denton and Ft.Worth.John was also an assistant at the Dallas Fair,promoting Denton's presence there; and WHEREAS, John's farm products regularly won prizes at Trade Days in Denton and surrounding towns. He worked as a landscaper, planting many of the redbud trees that grace the campus of Texas Woman's University; and WHEREAS, John and Ada's children continued their parents' involvement in the life of Denton including the sale of their land to the City of Denton which is now South Lakes Park.
