In 2005,the City entered into a 50-yearjoint-use agreement for the Natatorium with DISD.When this agreement was executed DISD had larger? two(2)high schools and now there are four(4)with more planned for the future and all utilizing the same space to conduct practices and meets for their aquatics program.In addition,UIL officially began water polo as a school sport in 2022 adding to the pressure of practice and meet space. As the residential base continues to grow,public use and programming is also being challenged with having enough space.The continued growth of Denton has caused a challenge regarding of having enough flat-water space for both the school district and the community. 26 With only one indoor aquatic facility,when we have a mechanical failure,it becomes more challenging. Planning for the growth of Denton is both exciting and intricate. Staff encourages leaders across Denton to reach out if we can assist with providing information to any groups,associations,meetings,or gatherings.The draft Aquatics Master Plan,is tentatively scheduled for a Council Work Session in September.
