WHEREAS, there have been delays in the electric industry supply chain limiting the availability of
distribution transformers for public power utilities,which is driving up costs and slowing down
electric facility build outs and limiting the ability to replace aging equipment;and
WHEREAS, the City of Denton sent a letter requesting Senator Cruz's assistance to work with the
Department of Energy and fellow legislators to pragmatically adopt a new energy efficiency
standard that can be achieved with the equipment available within the electric industry supply
chain;and
WHEREAS, in support of the Denton Municipal Electric's request, Senator Cruz graciously co-led S. 3627,
The Distribution Transformer Efficiency and Supply Chain Reliability Act of 2024;and
WHEREAS, Senator Cruz's interest in resolving public power's limited access to distribution transformers
and his advocacy on behalf of Denton Municipal Electric's concerns has been a benefit for the
citizen-owners of Denton Municipal Electric.The Senator's actions influenced the Department
of Energy's Energy Efficiency Standards to be more practical than the originally proposed rule;
and
WHEREAS, on April 16, 2024, the Department of Energy passed four consensus-based energy efficiency
actions that will save American households and businesses$1.9 billion per year on utility bills,
while significantly cutting energy waste and harmful carbon pollution.
NOW,THEREFORE, I, Gerard Hudspeth, Mayor of the City of Denton, Texas, along with Denton Municipal Electric,
express our most sincere gratitude to Senator Cruz for his support of Denton Municipal Electric,
it's citizen owners and public power across the country.Without the Senator's help the proposed
energy efficiency standards would have had a major negative impact on the availability of
distribution transformers within the already disrupted electric supply chain.
