I. Meeting was called to order by Adriana Hinojosa. Adriana had to leave early, President Elect Isabella Piria-Hinojosa
continued in leading the meeting. Introductions done. Prayer led by Popo Gonzalez.
II. Approval of Minutes - Minutes for the last meeting were not available. Blas Daniel Hinojosa motioned to table
Minutes. Seconded by Dorothy Martinez.
III.Treasurer's Report - Sonia Sturdivant gave a report with a balance of $2704. A scholarship check has yet to clear.
IV. Standing Committee Reports
- Election & Installation - Dr. Rudy Rodriguez reported on the success of the installation held at his home. Hector
Flores was, Past president of National LULAC installed new members. City officials, Mrs. White (Bill White's wife), along
with other election candidates spoke at the installation.
- Membership- Dorothy Martinez shared that our membership has grown with eleven (11) new members to a total
of thirty(30) paid members.
- Scholarships - Isabella Pina-Hinojosa shared that Michelle Cunningham will continue to guide us as we begin a
new year for our scholarship drive. SB1528 scholarships will be offered to LULAC students as a separate form. The
scholarship forms will be available on the Denton LULAC web by December 2010.
-Jorge Urbina shared that collective efforts between UNT, TWU and NCTC has rewarded $125,000. Important to
engage professors to help at the committee.
V. Old Business
- Dorothy Martinez shared that new LULAC T-Shirts will be $20. A request to sign up to purchase a T-shirt was
shared. The set up fee for the logo was waived.
- Kevin McGinnis shared the event for, Friday Sept 24 Fiesta on the Square 5-10 PM. A sign up sheet was shared
for two hr blocks: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
- Saturday Sept 25 World Fest-Kevin shared that another group will meet at UNT for this event. Sign up.
VI. New Business
- Historical Committee Volunteer was requested. Renato de LoSantos suggested we archive our LULAC history
with UT Austin; Dr. Calderon strongly suggests we archive with UNT. Another suggestion was that we make a copy of our
archives to send to UT Austin while originals to UNT Denton.
- Request El Sitio/El "Y"as known by workers-a sign up sheet went around. We will meet at Mi Casita at 10:00
Am and go on to clean El Sitio afterwards.
- Dec 2 - Holiday Lighting/Tamales 5:00 PM - Kevin reported that this even is successful. 100 dozen tamales are
sold by the dozen or individual. Jorge Urbina suggested we sell coffee, Dorothy suggested Chocolate; Caldron suggested
champurrado with the tamales. Kevin will check on this permission.
- DREAM ACT- Dr. Pina-Hinojosa shared that SB1528 students have a vision of becoming citizens. We should
follow national LULAC and participate with National LULAC. Isabella, Daniel joined UNT&TWU LULAC at the Marcha
held in Dallas May 2010.
- Guest- Rey de Los Santos- LNESE Director shared Dream Act vision &work. He shared the process of
becoming a citizen under the Dream Act which can take years upon receiving a graduate degree. A student can optimally
pay up to$11,000 during this process. Another avenue is to join a military branch. See LULAC National Website or send
letters to congressman. History of LULAC for the past 81 years. Apr 2011 District Convention UT Dallas: State in Killeen

Jorge Urbina shares La Vida Denton; Hispanic Chamber Gala $40 requested LULAC table
