Minutes8_4__2010 Minutes LULAC Council#4366 Meeting August 4, 2010 Central Fire Station Meeting Room Present: Kevin McGinnis, Sonia Sturdivant, Dorothy Martinez, Rudy Rodriguez, Isabel Pina- Hinojosa, Annette Mulkey, John Cabrales, Emilio "Popo" Gonzales, Sarah Cruz, Adriana Hinojosa, Ben Briseno, Toni Medellin, and Carmen Grant I. Meeting brought to order Kevin brought the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m. II. Minutes-Carmen Grant Carmen presented the minutes from July meeting. Corrections made to July 7th minutes are as follow: • Dorothy Martinez made a motion to accept treasurer's report; Isabel Pina-Hinojosa second. Motion passed • A recommendation was made to have the scholarship application added to our website, with one link for Senate Bill 1528 and another link for U. S. citizens • Rudy Rodriguez will chair the elections committee. Annette Mulkey and Sandra Benavides will serve on the committee. • Officers positions are President, President Elect, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer Kevin will send Rudy membership contact information John Cabrales made a motion to accept the minutes as amended; Dorothy Martinez second. Motion passed. III. Treasure's Report-Sonia Sturdivant Council Operations Balance: $2,502.13 Council Scholarship Balance: $147.71 $3,022.71 Scholarship Balance -$2,875.00 Outstanding Checks Balance $ 147.71 New Scholarship Balance • John Cabrales made a motion to accept treasurer's report as submitted; Dorothy Martinez second. Motion passed IV. Election Committee Report Results from elections are: • President—Adriana Hinojosa • President-Elect—Dr. Isabela Pina Hinojosa • Membership Vice-President—Dorothy Martinez • Secretary—Carmen Grant • Treasurer— Sonia Sturdivant • Parlimentarian—Daniel Hinojosa V. Old Business Scholarship Check Disbursal • Alejandra Espino picked up her check • Sulin Kamt and Makena Kinkle Need to pick up their checks Council Election Process • This year's officers election was conducted on-line • No one could vote twice -based on IP address • Elections were performed in a professional manner • The installation of officer will take place at Rudy Rodriguez;s home on August 27th • Please invite potential members VI. New Business Guest Speakers—Toni Medellin and Ben Brisefio • Toni announced a meet and greet for Linda Chavez-Thompson, democratic party lieutenant governor candidate, on August 181h at La Milpa Mexican Restaurant • Can also meet the other democratic candidates on August 18th event • Bill Barnett, J.P. Precinct 1 candidate will host an open house on August 4th at 607 Pearl Street for a meet and greet of democratic candidates • Please come and meet the candidates Community Relations • LULAC should have a representative at all community events to promote LULAC's presence VII. President's Report G. O. L. • LULAC served lunch to the kids, mentors/volunteers and guests of G. O. L. • Eric Avilla was the guest speaker at the luncheon. He spoke on his experiences in his family life and in his soccer life • His message to the kids is to "focus on your goal" Community Events • LULAC will have a booth at Fiesta on the Square • Kevin will contact Yamilet about a booth for Toni VIII.
