LULAC Council#4366 Meeting
October 15,2011
Denton Senior Center
Meeting called to order at 9:40 a.m
Present: Isabella Pina -Hinojosa, Blas Daniel Hinojosa, Dorothy Martinez, Anita Martinez-Strickland, Eric
Quintanilla, Maria Parker, Dolores Reyes, Rudy Rodriguez, Roberto Calderon
I. Welcome, Pledge and Prayer
II. Minutes
a. Lizeth was absent. Daniel Hinojosa made a motion to accept the minutes. Dorothy a
second. Motion passed.
III. Treasurer Report (Anita Martinez-Strickland)
IV. Dorothy made a motion to accept the Treasurer Report. Daniel seconded. Motion passed.
V. Guests:Tanya Martinez(Lowe's), Scott Stantlift (Lowe's), Vanessa Tonche-TWU, Lucille Robles
(DISD), Ruth Sanchez-UNT, Carlos Manuel-UNT, Kevin Roden (City Council)
a. Lowe's representatives came to show support to local LULAC of Denton
VI. Standing Committee Reports
a. G. Roland Vela: Dr. Rodriguez reported the Parks & Recreation subcommittee was in the
process of making a recommendation. A September 19 meeting was held to receive
public. Approx 14 spoke in favor,while two spoke against. November 7t"we will meet
at the Civic Center dome to hear the final report. Dr. Rodriguez reminded us to continue
our support and letters to the board.
VII. Old Business—no report
VIII.New Business
a. Holiday Lighting Festival—Friday, Dec 2nd from 5:30 p.m to 9:30 p.m
i. Dorothy Martinez will bring a sample of tamales from Mi Casita & Esthers
Bakery to the next meeting.
b. Officer Nominations were taken today and emails will betaken for nominations.
i. Officer Elections will be at the November 19, meeting
ii. Officer Installation will be December 10, 2011 at Rudy Rodriguez house for the
Holiday festival
c. Membership fees have been $35 for at least the past 10 years. Fees continue to
increase. President Isabella Pina-Hinojosa proposed we raise membership fees to$40.
Maria Parker second the motion. Motion passed.
IX. Lucy Robles, guest from Denton ISD Bilingual-ESL Department requested funds for children
attending the STAAR Earth Science Camp for at risk bilingual students. Dr. Rodriguez
proposed we all donate personal funds to this cause. Dorothy Martinez shared that the
council cannot afford to pay council funds since these are used for scholarships. Proposal
given by Daniel was that council members give individual checks to Dr. Rodriguez for the
cause. UNT&TWU will raise funds for this cause. Beto Calderon second the motion. Motion
passed.
X. President's Report
a. Meet at the Civic Center dome November 7, 2011.
b. Next scheduled meeting scheduled for November 19, 2011
