Roland Vela, Blas Daniel Hinojosa, Isabella Pina-Hinojosa, Virginia Gallian, Roberto Calderon,Jorge Urbina, Frank Perez, Mariella Cudd, Annette Mulkey, Michelle Cunningham ■ Welcome, Pledge& Prayer ■ Roll call/Introductions ■ Minutes o Dorothy Martinez made a motion to accept the Minutes o Mariella Cudd 2"d the motion ■ Treasurer's report o No treasurer's report available ■ Guests—Dr. Frank Perez was a guest who then became a member. (Dr. Perez was a previous LULAC member. We welcomed back. His daughter was part of the first year LULAC recipients in 1982.) ■ Standing Committee Reports o Holiday Lighting— ■ Kevin McGinnis reported on the Dec 2"d Holiday Funding which was a great success.All tamales were sold in less than 2 hours.The location was great and so was the weather.The only challenge was trying to get into the vendor area with fresh tamales. Kevin will check into this for next year. • Tamales were from Esther's Bakery. o Cena del Barrio ■ Kevin McGinnis shared that the council donated 100 cake boxes to Cena del Barrio. Since we did not have the families lined up,we did not collect the food to distribute. o Membership— ■ Dorothy discussed the current membership. ■ Seven (7) members paid for their membership during this meeting. ■ An approximate 6 members paid at the December Holiday gathering. ■ Others have mailed in their membership. o Scholarships—; ■ Isabella Pina-Hinojosa shared a memorial page in the scholarship program would be very beneficial to honor Lili Cantu. Dr. Rodriguez motioned that we should have a scholarship in her honor. Michelle Cunningham did a friendly amendment to utilize the $100 donor set aside for a community student scholarship on a yearly basis.The Council could vote on a yearly basis if funds were available.The council would also decide on the purpose of a special scholarship ■ Dr. Rolando Vela made a motion to accept the friendly amendment ■ Jorge Urbina second the motion ■ Isabella Pina-Hinojosa shared a Timeline for the scholarship committee (see attachment).Also shared a letter to be sent/mailed out to prospective donors. She requested volunteers to sign up for this committee.The following signed up for the committee: Dr. Rudy Rodriguez, Dr. rank Perez,Jorge Urbina,Annette Mulkey, Mariella Cudd ■ Isabella Pina-Hinojosa shared a project she is working on that Michelle Cunningham initiated. This is an excel spreadsheet with all LULAC Recipients since the inception of LULAC in 1981. The first scholarship recipients were in 1982. Isabella has compiled a list from 1982 to 2005. ■ Jorge Urbina shared that we should try to contact as many of these recipients to ask them for scholarship donations. He also suggested a prior recipient and current LULAC member should send this letter. He suggested Evelyn Corum. • Old Business o Education Forum—; ■ Dr. Rodriguez continues to work with NCTC on a possible date for the education forum.The date has been moved to March 26, Saturday. A sign up sheet was passed around. o City Facility named in honor of Dr. Rolando Vela ■ Rudy Rodriguez gave an update in name a city part or facility in honor of Dr. Rolando Vela. He will send out the information that has been prepared. ■ New Business o Adriana Hinojosa—emailed the council (attached)to step down as President of Council #4366 due to personal and family matters.Adriana Hinojosa is enrolled to continue her education.The Council accepted her resignation. ■ The council voted to follow LULAC Constitution, allowing for the President Elect or Vice President to step in as President if a vacancy occurred. ■ Isabella Pina-Hinojosa was approved by a majority vote of hands as President. She is President Elect(to be President beginning April 2012). Due to the vacancy, the council chose and voted to allow Isabella Pina-Hinojosa as President for the remainder of the term and then begin her regular term in April 2012. Based on the previous protocol the following should be noted: ■ DATCU Bank Acct—Bank account should now be under the newly named President, Isabella Pina-Hinojosa &current Treasurer, Sonia Sturdivant ■ P.O. Box—Keys were turned in to the newly named President, Isabella Pina-Hinojosa &current Treasurer,Sonia Sturdivant o Scholarship Banquet— ■ Will be at the Senior Center, April 14 @ 6:30 p.m. o Senior Center Visit ■ Will be Saturday,January 22 at 9:00 a.m. Isabella encouraged LULAC members to participate so that we can have a dialogue with the Center's personnel on how to promote activities for Latinos. o Scholarship Committee—see report above o Nomination for Officers—next February meeting o BLOG -&Website updated—www.dentonlulac.com or www.lulaccouncil4366.blogspot.com ■ President's report o Feb 19`"— Nomination of Officers, election ballot mailed out o March 19—Voting of officers o April 14—LULAC Scholarship Banquet, Denton Senior Center ■ Motion to adjourn at 10:40 AM by Kevin McGinnis ■ Second by Dorothy Martinez Next meeting February 19, 2011 at El Chaparral Restaurant. Box address • Disperse check to students from Central Fire Station with the option of going to DATCU to receive check from Sonia Sturdivant, Treasurer. • 15th—24th —correspondence with past contributors and LULAC contributors o LULAC Member$100 group - asking each LULAC member to consider donating $100 towards a scholarship or o LULAC Member any other amt of$50 or more is highly appreciated. See attachment • Visit local restaurants and new businesses to help with SB1528 donations. Volunteers: • Mail out Tax Receipts for 2010 donors (Sonia Sturdivant) • Press Release—Scholarship applications & information given to DISD admin & high school counselors February • Funds for match mailed to national office March 1, 2011 March • Unmatched funds continue to be collected for scholarships • 18th - Scholarship applications postmarked due to our Council • 25th—Applications reviewed by committee (need a committee) • 28th —Applicants notified April • 1st—LNESC notifies LULAC Councils of national supplement allocated. • 8th —deadline to receive acceptance of award (university acceptance letter) • 14th —6:30 p.m. —8:30 p.m. Scholarship Banquet & Installation of New Officers May-June • 1st—Council recipient report part C & D with recipient's completed applications and verification of college acceptance or enrollment are due at the LNESC National July-August • 15th— National LNESC mails fall semester checks to P.O Box address and first checks dispersed—college/university schedule required LULAC SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE Need a few members to put in a minimal amount of hours.
