Juan de Dios Martinez.
Juan will graduate from the Distinguished Achievement Program at John Guyer High School with a GPA of
3.6667, and an ACT of 1510. A student athlete,Juan was a track regional qualifier in 2008-2010, and a cross-
country regional qualifier in 2009-2010. He is a recipient of TAFE and Ready, Set,Teach Awards.Juan will be
attending The University of North Texas where he will major in Education. He is the son of Armando &
Laura Cardona.
Juan de Dios is a recipient of the LULAC/Harris General Scholarship funded by Dr. Glenda Harris. His
award is presented by Dr. Glenda Harris in the amount of$500.00.
Izamar Flores
Izamar will graduate from the Distinguished Achievement Program at John Guyer High School with a GPA
of 4.7941, and an ACT of 1670. He was selected to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum on
Medicine for two consecutive years, the National Society of High School Scholars, and the National Honor
Society,and is also an active participant in the Multicultural Club and the Key Club. He will attend The
University of North Texas where he will major in Biochemistry,before continuing his studies in medical
school. Izamar if the son of Maria F. Castillo.
Izamar is a recipient of the LULAC General Scholarship funded by the LULAC Club,Dr. Perez,Dr.
Calderon,Mr.Willie and Mrs. Iris Lopez, Ms. Sarah Cruz, and Ms. Annette Mulkey. His award is presented by
LULAC Member Sarah Cruz in the amount of$500.00.
Christian C. Velasco
Christian will graduate from the Recommended High School Program at Billy Ryan High School with a GPA
of 3.3438, and an SAT of 1410. Christian has participated in the Talent Search Pre-College Program,
recognized as an Emerald Scholar and TAKS commended student in reading and math. A football defensive
end, he is one of the 2009 & 2010 UIL4A Division Champions, and a 2010 UIL 4A Division State Finalist.
He will be attending The University of North Texas where he will major in Architecture. Christian is the son
of Amy and Joel Velasco.
Christian is receiving the LULAC/Hinojosa-Pina National scholarship funded by the Hinojosa-Pina
Family. Dr. Isabella Pina-Hinojosa,Mr. Daniel Hinojosa, and their daughter Celina Hinojosa present his
award in the amount of$1000.00.

Daneydy Garcia De Jesus
Daneydy will graduate from the Recommended High School Program from Denton High School with a GPA
of 3.9688, and an SAT of 1430. Daneydy is a member of Upward Bound, PALS, Key Club, and Student
Council, honored with an English Laureate Award. She earned a cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification,
and is an Evers Elementary First Grade Tutor, and a Certified Nursing Assistant Helper at Denton Good
Samaritan Nursing Home. Daneydy will be cursing Nursing studies at the Texas Woman's University. She is
the daughter of Freddy and Sipriana De Jesus.

Keren B. Sanchez
Keren will graduate from the Distinguished Achievement Program at Billy Ray High School with a 3.75 GPA,
and a 1370 SAT score. Keren is a member of many school organizations like HUSA, Choir,Upward Bound,
and a Leader of her Church Youth Programs and Worship Band. She is also a member of the Rotary Interact.
Keren will be pursuing nursing studies at the Texas Woman's University. She is the daughter of Baltazar&
Claudia Sanchez.
Keren is receiving a LULAC General Scholarship funded by Former District Attorney Bruce Issacks. Mr.

Diana Sanchez
Diana will graduate from the Distinguished Achievement Program at Billy Ray High School with a 3.125
GPA and an SAT of 1350. Diana earned a 3'place in Word Power in the Academic Bowl, and is an Emerald
and Ruby Scholar respectively in her junior and senior year. She has also participated in numerous activities
like the College Prep Program, the Upward Bound in Math and Science, and is a Certified Nursing Assistant
Helper at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She will pursue nursing studies at Texas Woman's University.
Diana is the daughter of Quintiliano and Ana Sanchez.

Alicia M. Martinez-Strickland
Alicia will graduate from the Recommended High School Program at Billy Ray High School with a 3.5 GPA,
and an 1190 SAT score. She is involved in Ryan High Student Council and other club;regularly volunteers at
local and regional groups, and has attended the MASH Camp at Amarillo Health Education Center to gain
some medical experience.Alicia is planning attending Texas Woman's University where will be purse
Radiology studies before attending medical school.Alicia is the daughter of David and Anita Strickland.
Alicia is a recipient of the LULAC/DATCU Honors Scholarship funded by Mr. Dale Kimble, CEO of

Karla D. Ortiz
Karla will graduate from the Distinguished Achievement Program at John Guyer High School with a 4.2424
GPA, and an SAT of 1520. Karla received a commendation in all exit level TAKS areas. She volunteers her
time at the Willowwood Church Vocational Bible School and Basketball Camp, and the Summer Reading
Program at the Denton Public Library. Karla will be attending the North Central Texas College where she
will major in Biology, before continuing her medical studies. Karla is the daughter of Daniel Ortiz and Maria
Cruz.
Karla is a recipient of the LULAC Local Scholarship funded by Dr. Rudy&Rosemary Rodriguez,Michelle
Cunningham and Dr. Carmelina Holloway. Her award is presented by Dr. Rudy Rodriguez in the amount of

Michael A. Cudd
Michael will be graduating from the Recommended High School Program at Billy Ryan High School with a
3.5625 GPA, and a 1359 SAT score. A student athlete,Michael is a Texas All-State Wide Receiver, a 2011
Texas State Finalist for football, an Eagle Scout, and has held several leadership positions at his Church.
Michael will be majoring in Business and Pre-Med at the University of North Texas. He is the son of Thomas

Christopher is graduating from Billy Ray High School with a 3.8929 and an SAT of 1290. Christopher is a
person with proven determination who faces challenges with a positive attitude and outlook and values
education. He is planning to major in Business with a minor in Psychology at The University of North Texas.

Kevin will graduate from the Distinguished Achievement Award at John Guyer High School with a 4.9063
GPA and an SAT score of 1800. A student athlete in cross-country and a track Varsity, Kevin has been
recognized as Student of the Month and a member of the National Honor Society. He volunteers at the
Ronald McDonald House in Fort Worth, the League of Friends, and his Church Youth Ministry. Kevin will
be attending the University of Texas at Austin majoring in Biology, before continuing his studies in Medicine.

Paulina San Miguel
Pauhna will graduate from the Recommended High School Program at Denton High School with a 4.4688
GPA and an SAT score of 1820. Paulina is member of the National Honor Society, the National Spanish
Honor Society, and the Fillies Drill Team. She earned Silver and Bronze Medals at the National Spanish
Exams. Paulina will be attending the University of North Texas where she will pursue studies in physical
therapy. She is the daughter of Blanca San Miguel.

Allyse C. Rodriguez
Allyse is graduating from the Distinguished Achievement Program at John Guyer High School with a 4.7870
GPA and a SAT score of 1700.A volleyball athlete,Allyse is a member of the National Honor Society,the
Peer Assistance and Leadership Program, the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Program, and the Guyer's Habitat
for Humanity Program. She will be attending The University of Texas at Austin where she will major,
journalism, and photojournalism.Allyse is the daughter of Oscar and Karen Rodriguez.

Camila Fernanda Celis
Camila will graduate from the Distinguished Achievement Program at John Guyer High School with a GPA
of 4.3939, and a SAT score of 1340.A student athlete in Varsity tennis, Camile is also a member of the
National Honors Society,the Spanish Honor Society, the Peer Assistance Leadership program, and the
SEDD Dance Team. Camila will attend the UTA,where she will major in Industrial and Manufacturing
Systems Engineering. She is the daughter of Jose and Marta Cristales.

Leah Carole Mendes
Leah will graduate from the Distinguished Achievement Program at John Guiyer High School with a 4.3939
GPA, and an 1830 SAT score. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the League of Friends, the
Spanish Honor Society,where she holds the vice-president position, and Key Club. She also volunteers at the
Denton Bible Church. Leah will be attending Texas A&M University where she will major in Business
Administration before pursuing a Master's degree. She is the daughter of Tony and Jody Mendes.
Leah is receiving the LULAC/Republicans Honors Scholarship funded by the Denton Country
Republicans. A representative of the Denton County Republican party presents her scholarship in the
amount of$750.00.

Kevin Reynaldo Hernandez
Kevin will graduate from the Distinguished Achievement Program at John Guyer High School with a 4.27
GPA and a SAT score of 1620. He is a member of the School Band, the National Honor Society, the Spanish
Honor Society, and volunteers regularly at the public library. Kevin will be pursuing studies to become a
Pharmacist in Texas. He is the son of Julio and Delmy Hernandez.

Christian Sotelo
Christian will graduate from the Distinguished Achievement Program at John Guyer High School with a
4.2424 GPA, and a 1560 SAT score. Christian holds a full time job while shadowing a cardiovascular surgeon
to learn about the medical profession. He will be attending The University of Texas at Dallas,where he will
major in pre-medical studies. Christian is the son of Adolfo and Rosalinda Sotelol
Christian is a recipient of the LULAC General Scholarship funded by the LULAC Club,Dr. Perez,Dr.

Carlos Leonardo Calvo
Carlos will graduate from the Distinguished Achievement Program at John Guyer with a 4.2069 GPA, and an
1800 SAT score. Carlos is a member of Guyer's Orchestra,is recognized as a National AP Scholar and a
member of the Who's Who? Society, the National Honor Roll, and Health Science Tech Education Program.
He will pursue a degree in human biology at Baylor University before continuing his medical studies. He is
the son of Daniel and Claudia Calvo.
Carlos is a recipient of the LULAC/Brock Honors Scholarship funded by Former Denton Mayor Euline
and Dr. Horace Brock. Presenting his award is Former Mayor Euline Brock in the amount of$750.00.
Raul Soberanes
Raul will be graduating from the Distinguished Achievement Program at Denton High School,with a 4.2059
GPA, and a 21 ACT composite score. Raul received a certificate of recognition for his contributions to the
Automotive Technology Team at the Advanced Technology Complex that built an electric dragster that
broke a world record in 2010. He performs community service at the Good Samaritan Society. Raul will be
majoring in Computer Science at The University of North Texas. He is the son of Raul and Sorina Soberanes.

determined, hardworking individual who works to help support his family while going to school. He will
