TIM SANCHEZ Award Position:
Tim Sanchez
Denton High School Physics Teacher:
Has a ....
Education:
(or experience) Bachelor of Science in Secondary Science Education
from the University of Oklahoma
Background:
Mr. Sanchez shares that in his youth he was formerly
involved with gangs and later had the opportunity to
get away and pursue an education to become a teacher
working with students before they got mixed up with
that lifestyle. He started an after-school program in the
spring of his first year teaching called Students Against
A Violent Youth (SAaVY). They focused on projects
that keep the kids busy so that they can stay out of
trouble and feel like more a part of the school
community. He has incorporated the SAaVY program
into the PALS class. The class focuses on community
service and mentoring of younger students.
He has taught at Denton High School since 2002. Mr.
Sanchez looks forward to the challenge of motivating
minority students to get involved with upper level
science classes, graduate and continue their education.
Teaching Philosophy: He believes every child has the potential to succeed and
it is his job as an educator to find a way to motivate
each student to want to succeed.
