Every day, I strive to move one step ahead towards my goal to become a computer engineer. Ever since I can remember,I have been fascinated by computers and their functions. My dad influenced me to start learning computer skills as a little kid. He taught me how to disassemble a computer and assemble it back together. I took typing courses online, and that eventually lead me to learn C++ programming. By the time I began high school I knew I wanted to become a computer engineer. With this in mind, throughout high school I have chosen courses such as AP Physics 1 & 2, Introduction to Engineering, Computer Science, and math subjects that prepare me to reach my career goal. Although these courses introduced me to difficult concepts that I will have to deal with as a computer engineer, I have also learned about computer hardware and software on my own. I also believe that my participation in orchestra and other AP classes have taught me skills such as teamwork, dedication, and persistence that will prove useful in college and as a professional engineer. I've gotten the opportunity to participate in several community service events across my community. I partook in campus cleanups, kettlebell ringing, and food drives for the homeless. Sometimes I volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in Fort Worth, and these experiences has made me realize that I have an obligation to help others in need and make a change in their lives. Although these activities are not directly related towards my goal to become an engineer, they are related to becoming someone in life. My experiences make me into a better person and prepare me with skills and characteristics necessary for future success. `VQ `f Denton LULAC Council 4366 0 Last Name, First Name Campus Latino YES [-]NO 41,141 US Citizen—Resident-DACA YES ❑NO ( 5 Signed Application IVES [:]NO Essay DYES [:]NO_ Letter of Acceptance YES ❑NO High School Transcript YES [:]NO ACT or SAT Report ES [—]NO ❑YES—Disqualified Scholar relation Committee;President;Contributor? When my sister became ill with Type 1 Diabetes, that helped to solidify my decision. In high school, I have taken most all the science classes offered because I love learning about anything science related and the human body. I am also part of the medical program at my school, which allowed me to do hospital rotations my junior year, and shadow surgeons my senior year. I feel that my maturity and work ethic throughout high school helped me to be chosen for job shadowing. I had several teachers, nurses, and even hospital directors, write recommendations for me to be chosen for the job shadow program after working with me during the hospital rotation cycle. Many of my teachers and peers describe me as caring, ambitious, and eager to learn. I feel that these character traits will help me to be successful not only in my career, but also throughout life. My parents are teachers, and they struggle to make ends meet. My younger sister's medical expenses are a huge strain on my family. We also took in my 15 year old cousin to help him have a better life, after he and his parents became homeless. My parents work really hard to help me achieve my goals. I also recently took on a job as an evening and weekend receptionist to help with expenses. I have been very involved in my church, as well as Student Council, and vice-president of the future DOCS club. Through these organizations, I have helped raise money for Denton County Food Bank, and Denton Humane Society. I was also a mentor for the Denton Christian Preschool, where I helped raise money for books and pajamas for the children. I have participated in varsity tennis the past 4 years, and was elected co-captain for the team. I feel that all these experiences have helped me to become a better person. Not only knowledge obtained from core classes, but also from extracurricular activity. My education is continuously preparing me for predicaments inside and outside of my learning environment. For example, anything that is taught to me in English could contribute to any and all writing that I do for the rest of my life. Whether it be public statements, essays, or simple criticism, my academic study in English has prepared me adequately. My professional, and personal, goal is to graduate and pursue an education in Mass Communication. Mass Communication is the production and distribution of news, information, media, and messages intended for a large audience. Mass Communications also covers a wide range of professions including: director, media critic, editor, advertiser, journalist, filmmaker, and many more. I intend to major in Mass Communication at Texas A&M University in Texarkana and graduate with a bachelor's degree. After and during, college I intend to pursue a career in the telecommunications branch of mass communication, which essentially means anything related to television. To prepare me to study this major, I am currently taking a class at the Advanced Technology Center that trains me with equipment similar to those utilized in an everyday news station. In addition, I volunteered approximately 120 hours working as the audio director for a Denton Community Theatre musical production during the summer 2015. Furthermore, I currently volunteer as a technical director and camera operator for Cross Timbers Community Church. As of right now I have volunteered roughly 72 hours. Both volunteer positions, and classes, are effectively providing me with hands-on training essential to pursue my desired career. 1 Denton LULAC Council 4366 0 Last Name, First Name Campus tJY'4t1A- + ► rQ. As I age and become cognizant of the world surrounding me, I have become conscious of climate change and it's affects on our Earth. My ultimate personal goal is to impact this world in a way that ensures that future generations will view it as I have. Presumptively, this also leads into my professional goal. I have a hunger to learn about what is impacting our planet and how to slow its deterioration that, as humans, we have slowly caused. This includes but isn't limited to: cleaner energy, better waste disposal and water/habitat conservation. In two words, Environmental Health. Ensuring stellar academic studies, these will unquestionably help me obtain my professional and personal goals. Furthering my education will allow me to take the classes that teach me how the Earth got where it is today. I can see myself in labs practicing what I'm learning in virtually realistic scenarios. I am a Hispanic female who has ambition and is striving to be the best that she can be. I am going to college to further my studies in psychology. It is a topic that greatly interests me and I have always loved helping others. I have set multiple goals that I will attempt to achieve, but they all start with me committing to academics. I want to receive my bachelor's degree in psychology and then go for my master's degree. After I have received both, I plan on opening my own private practice where I will assist patients that need guidance. As a high school student, I have been involved in multiple clubs, inside and out of school. I am an officer in the Denton High School League of United Latin American Citizens organization. I am very proud to represent the Latin American community and I take pride in saying that I am a Hispanic female that wants to represent the Latinos in a good way. Being in LULAC has helped me be better as a person and value my background. It made me understand that no matter where we come from we will need help at some point and knowing that will benefit me in the future. Outside of school, I was in Upward Bound Math and Science at the University of North Texas for two summers. That program made me understand the importance of team work and improve on my leadership skills. It was very beneficial because it gave me a college life experience and I loved it. Being a female and also a minority are what makes me push myself and take any opportunity that comes my way. 40 . As a student I found that Science has always interested me ever since I was little, and I have continued to explore that area growing up. Throughout high school I have been given the opportunity to study two years of higher level honors Chemistry, and taken a class that has allowed me to shadow medical personnel in a hospital. These experiences have really expanded my knowledge both inside and outside the classroom and given me a small experience to what I hope to continue in the future. I intend to study Chemistry for my bachelor's degree and then further my education into medical school. My goal is someday become a pediatric physician, I want to help people get better through the knowledge and skills I have obtained by furthering my education. Serving others is something I have practiced with my own community in different ways through my school and as a church member. In school I exercise my leadership abilities through PALS, in which I serve as a mentor for elementary-level children, National Honor Society, by serving my student body, and Drill Team, by serving as a role model for school spirit, along with these activities I have also helped with fundraising money for my Senior class and working my school's blood drive. All of these experiences have helped me grow as a person and make connections with people that have helped me get to where I have. I know that I will continue to learn and serve my community in the future, and with the help of further education through medical school, to helps other as a pediatric physician. In addition, please discuss any community service or extracurricular activities you have been involved in that relate to your goals. On a personal level, I have a desire to contribute to the betterment of healthcare, whether that be as a doctor or through medical research. This is of course what drives my professional goals. As a high school student who desires to work in the medical field, I realized the academic challenges that I would be faced with. Therefore I have purposefully engaged in taking the highest level courses available to me. I have taken Pre-AP, AP, and IB courses throughout high school. I believe that challenging myself today will prepare me for the challenges that lie ahead. It is because of my professional goals that I have selected to attend Schreiner University. Their reputable Biology and Pre-Med programs are known for their impressive 98% medical school acceptance rate. I believe this success is fostered in the classroom, which at Schreiner is much smaller than most four-year universities. Having a personal relationship with those guiding your education can only enhance the learning that takes place. In addition to my interest in medicine, I also play baseball. At Schreiner University I will have the opportunity to continue to play the game I love as a collegiate athlete. Again I am very aware of the challenges I will face on and off the field as a student- athlete. Throughout high school I have successfully managed to prioritize my time. I have accomplished academic success by achieving grades that place me within the top 10% of my class, all while participating in 4 years of baseball, being active in Student Council and serving as the Vice President of the Principal's Action Committee, being a member of the National Honor Society, and having participated in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as well as my church youth group. I will continue striving for success. Applicant's signature required. I fell in love with Chemistry during my sophomore year and my junior year took AP Chemistry as an elective rather than a required science because to me it wasn't about getting the credit, but rather about learning more about what I loved. I have taken many science classes throughout high school and have enjoyed them all. I am currently enrolled in an Intro to Organic Chemistry class that some other students and I pushed to have at our school. The passion to learn is there. The willingness to work hard for what I want to achieve is there. The goal to become a doctor one day exists within me. I think about all of the classes that have challenged me as I look forward into my future. I know that my major in Biochemistry will not be easy, but throughout these past four years, I have learned to work hard for what I want and to never give up, no matter how difficult the task at hand may seem. Those are the accomplishments I remember, not the easily attainable ones, but the ones that almost ended or did end in failure. My experience in science classes will be very helpful as I take on more difficult classes in college and having participated in UIL Science has taught me how to self-study and work towards my personal goals without a teacher guiding me. I have always loved learning and therefore want to become a life-long learner through the field of medicine. I want to be able to apply my knowledge and help people through my work. The love that began in high school will continue to drive me toward my goals. !rl Denton LULAC Council 4366VdIA c Last Name, First Name Campus Latino OYES ONO US Citizen—Resident-DACA OYES [:]NO Signed Application YES ONO Essay ES ONO Letter of Acceptance DYES O High School Transcript NrYES ONO ACT or SAT Report YES [—]NO ❑YES—Disqualified Scholar relation Committee;President;Contributor? What inspired me most into culinary industry was when I get to see that look on a person's face tasting the food I made. The first meal I cooked by myself was meatloaf with brown gravy drizzled on top and sided with garlic mashed potatoes and buttered corn. Everything ended up amazing. Seriously, everything was gone but, we do have a big family to feed. The look on their faces said it all. I was only twelve then. That was when I found out I wanted to do something with cooking. My educational goals are to finish my culinary classes at the ATC and go into University of North Texas to get my bachelor's degree in Business, heading for a culinary school for a Culinary Arts associates degree. I want to learn more things not just cooking. I want to learn how to be more social with people, to run my own business, and to become a good leader for my employees. In addition, I would like to know what works and doesn't work in a business in certain communities. My career goals are to start working for an employer and work my way up to owning my own business. I want to learn about every position from the food industry to learn what happens in front and behind the scene. If possible, to experience everything before starting a business. This scholarship is important because, it well get me ahead into the culinary business and help me pay for school. My family doesn't have much money to squeeze for a secondary education. This scholarship well be part that well make me be the first of my family to graduate high school and to a secondary school. Applicant's signature required. Whether it be moving from house to house multiple times a year, borrowing a friends laptop to finish an assignment, or using a neighbors Wi-Fi to do research papers, things haven't always been easy. Although I didn't always have everything I wanted, my parents have always given me what I need. They have taught me that getting an education is the best tool for being successful. Graduating from college will give me the skills necessary to achieve my goals of creating something that will save numerous lives. Getting an education will also help me fulfill my goal of paying back those who have helped me as well as helping other who will come after me. I have been helped by so many people in my community that I try my best to give back to it. i have done countless service projects with my high school service organizations like Rotary interact and Key club. I have run a good drive for the Monsignor King Outreach Center, helped get less fortunate kids get toys for Christmas, and worked with Rotary to raise money for a camp in Nairobi. Doing all these things are my way of giving back as well as paying it forward. Volunteering is a passion of mine but I wish to make a difference on a greater level, getting an education will also help me do this. Every person inspired by someone who was able to guide them in the right direction. Throughout my educational journey i have come across these people who have impacted my life so greatly without even realizing they have done so. These people and their impact is the very reason i have chosen their same path. I want to be the reason for someone else to choose a path, an inspiration, a guide. 1 want to be an educator. Much like every other student out there, my thoughts on what i am going to do with my life are never ending and changing constantly. However, every new career path i thought i would go with, education was always right there in the back of my head screaming for me to follow. I thought my high school years would be the best time to try and figure out if this was the route i wanted to pursue. I started babysitting kids of family friends as soon as i left middle school, and started to volunteer for a daycare every summer which i continue to do. A counselor of mine suggested i take an Education and Training class, and it was truly life changing. I am currently a part of PALS and am given the opportunity to work one on one with kids and see the difference i am making. During college i plan to expand my knowledge of the education field, so i can leave prepared to expand the knowledge of others. My hope is to change the lives of students by showing them their own true potential. Applicant's signature required. Martinez My Life, My Passion, My Future Throughout my high school career, I have participated and have much passion for many academic and extra-curricular activities that have supplied me with attributes that will help me in my future endeavors in the nursing field. I engaged myself in advanced placement and honors courses and joined many clubs in my community and at school. Being a minority was not always easy when it came to participating in advanced classes. As one of the few Latino students who sat in a classroom of crowded desks, I always felt the puzzled eyes of students when I raised my hand to answer a question. Although people often doubted my academic abilities, I enjoyed being in these classes because I liked the challenge they provided and the feeling I received when I achieved my scholastic goals. Being in these courses enabled me to establish a hard work ethic and solidify the importance of an education. The value of giving back to the community is something that is of great importance to me and is an activity that I plan to do for the rest of my life. As a freshman in high school, joining clubs was all I wanted to do. I became a member of many community service organizations in which I took part in projects that benefitted society and even my school. My participation in these activities granted me the opportunity to get involved in my community while teaching me the importance of selflessness and teamwork. Without my strenuous advanced course workload and community service outreach activities, I would not have grown into the communicative and perseverant person I am today. Being in these organizations has supplied me with the characteristics of leadership, discipline, respect, and responsibility and I look forward to seeing how they will influence my future endeavors. College will provide me with all the necessary skills I would need to be successful in any of the following careers: real estate, office management, or financial firms—all of which I dream to attain. As a course, I currently work in the Attendance Office at my high school as an office aide. I have enjoyed this position because it has allowed me to use my organizing skills, time management skills, and my attention to detail. I really enjoy that class because the daily tasks I am assigned there portray my dream job. Although some people might find it strange or boring, my ideal job would be working in an office. Some of the tasks in my dream job would be managing a team of employees, receiving precise instructions with deadlines, answering phone calls, and setting up work meetings. As an office aide, I have realized that I excel at this position and I will strive to achieve this career goal. Ever since I was a little girl, my dad always told me "Be the best you can be." I kept those words in my mind throughout my whole life. I took as many AP classes as I could of my school year in order to challenge myself. Even though those classes are overwhelming and it takes a lot of time management. I learn how to balance from all the other responsibilities I had. I was more determined and focus. It gave me an idea on how challenging and fast paced a college class will be. Also, gave me valuable learning skills that I will need later on college. I learn that if something is hard, in order to overcome is to work harder. I cannot sit around and wait for my goal to come to me. I have to work for my goal to become a doctor, and that takes a lot of hard work and dedication. So I make sure I study and prepare myself for each subject that I took to be the best I can be. When my brother got accepted into the program Upward Bound. I gave it a try and when I got accepted I knew this club was for me. Upward Bound helps the community. I feel grateful when I help others because it feels like I am making a difference. I love giving back to the community. I become a recognized figure in my community and that's important to me. It helped me to build a positive self-esteem. It taught me to be a leader to care for those indeed. Throughout the activities and classes I have been. They all taught me valuable skills that will help me for the rest of my life that will make me successful to become a doctor. Applicant's signature required. The general goal that I desire to achieve is to successfully fulfill the American Dream. To me, the American Dream is not about being rich and famous. It is about being able to supply my future children with a better childhood than mine. I intend to do just that by having an influential career in business and holding a city office in my hometown of Denton to contribute towards the community that my kids will live in. Personally, I would love to have the opportunity to raise a prosperous and loving family. I do not take for granted the sacrifices my parents have made for me. I desire to be a father much like mine, instilling good morals and amiability into my children's character. I am making steps towards this goal by serving as a Sunday School teacher at my church. By learning to treat kids now, I will be ahead of the curve when my own offspring are welcomed to this world. As for more professional goals, I want to lead my community. For starters, I'm going to use my degree in marketing to work for an advertisement agency. 1 intend on working diligently until being promoted to manager of a marketing team for a respected company. In the meantime, I will set aside funds that I will need to run for an alderman position in Denton. I have prepared my entire life to develop the tools needed to be a member of the city council and a marketing team. I have played team sports all throughout high school and the experience 1 have in collaborating with others will be critical. In conclusion, I want my children to experience Denton much as I have. However, my children will do so with more opportunity and stability. Applicant's signature required. I aspire to be an athletic trainer for a professional basketball team. I took an athletic training class and became a trainer for my high school's football team and girls' basketball team. I also took an anatomy and physiology class. It was so interesting learning about the different muscles and joints, and about how to not only treat injuries but also prevent injuries from even occurring. These classes just enhanced my interest in sports medicine. My love for this profession has just fed my need to work hard towards a 3.9 weighted GPA, and work about 30 hours a week on average to be able to afford to go to a university where I can get great hands on training and leam more about athletic training and kinesiology. I also have a personal goal that once I get into my profession; I will be able to encourage athletes to have the mindset that they can recover from an injury and to believe in themselves to be their best even when they feel they can't and they are done. This may sound crazy because I want to work with professional athletes and they didn't get that far by not thinking they are the best, however with them being under contract it is a lot of pressure to stay healthy and fit. Let's be honest we all have those times when we don't believe in ourselves, I just want to be there to help motivate them to remind them they can do anything with the right attitude, work ethic, and motivation. My academic studies will contribute to my personal and professional goals in more ways than one. For example, going to college to further my education in Graphic Design will help provide me with better insight into my career choice and will help show me the steps I need to take to become successful in that field in order to help others, or a business, with personal and professional projects. In consideration of how to steadily apply myself to achieve this goal, I chose to become involved in Student Council. Student Council offers multiple leadership opportunities in the form of committees that drive specific projects, and I am the committee head for Media and Technology. This committee is responsible for creating posters, tickets for events, t-shirt designs, performance programs, and many other projects for the school. In addition to this, I have taken two years of Graphic Design and Illustration at the Advance Technology Complex, which has been a great introduction to my learning and knowledge of Graphic Design. In my junior year of high school I had no idea how to use Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop. Now, a year later, I know how to use both: I am certified in Adobe Illustrator, and I plan on becoming certified in Photoshop in the near future. Through this course I have gained a wealth of knowledge for attaining my career goals, but not as much as I am capable of experiencing in college. I plan on furthering my education to exceed my goals and become a helpful hand in the Graphic Design industry through hard work, self- motivation, and dedication during the next chapter of my life. r Denton LULAC Council 4366 ,r f Last Name, First Name Campus !(JAI 4,0 " V Latino IYES [—]NO US Citizen—Resident- DACA YES ❑NO Signed Application YES [:]NO Essay YES []NO Letter of Acceptance YES [:]NO High School Transcript YES ENO ACT or SAT Report YES [:]NO I It YES—Disqualified Scholar relation Committee;President;Contributor? It is a factor that I take in consideration so I can complete my goal of being a biomedical engineer. This career has had my attention ever since I was in middle school. I have always been careful of making good grades in school because I really want to succeed. My parents have always pushed me since they did not have the chance to go to college when they were younger. This motivates me more for trying to reach my goal. I am also in the TRIO program, Upward Bound at the University of North Texas. It has helped me stay more focused on going to college and know in advance of how college will be. It has also helped me be more diligent in school, and cultivated good time management that will benefit me in college. For example, in NHS I have to make sure that I study to maintain good grades. However, I still have to make time for extracurricular activities. LINT Upward Bound has taught me to balance both aspects in my life. Science and math classes that I take also prepare me for my future career goals. I have taken AP classes in these subjects throughout high school to make it more challenging for me since engineering is a really hard major in general. All these things that I have stated above are important steps that I have to compete to reach my goal of becoming a biomedical engineer. Applicant's signature required. I've never been the best at school but I have fought through battles to finish. That why I believe NCTC should be my first choice of college. After I finish my two years I'm planning on moving to a four year college so I can get my degree in Business and management but also have a licenses so I can work with special needs kids. During my college years in planning to work at a daycare or become a nanny, but I will also be doing a lot of volunteer work involving special needs kids. When I was about 12-13 1 went to classes to become a certified babysitter, I didn't work for people but I would always get stuck watching my nieces and nephews. My sister never really trusted anyone with my niece but me. Riley was diagnosed with Asperger when she was three, nobody really could handle riley but surprisingly I was one of the few who could. When I was a sophomore in high school I joined the Partner P.E.class, although I had trouble actually staying at school I would never miss this class. In the class I learned how to deal with students that were physically and mentally handicap, I was taught what to do when they threw their fits and how to reward them in positive ways. I've known for a while that I was put in this world to work with kids and special needs kids. I've struggled with my teenage years but I've worked so hard to get where I am today so I can have the opportunity to start doing what I love to do and what truly makes me happy. Since I'm going to college to become a suicide prevention counselor, the subject matter in my classes hasn't directly helped me learn about this career, but the abilities I have acquired through these classes will help me to do well in the future. I've learned the importance of time management, especially with the extra-curricular activities that I'm in. Being able to balance schoolwork with Drumline and Student Council was a challenge, but it has helped me acquire great time management skills, which will help me do well in college. Student Council has also helped me to choose a career path. Since it requires fifteen hours of community service per semester, I have had the opportunity to interact with a lot of different people, and volunteer at different locations, including an animal shelter and nursing home. Through these volunteer opportunities, I have found a passion for helping others. I have always loved the idea of being able to make people's lives better, especially those who are going through tough times. Student Council has been a great outlet for me to be able to participate in events that help others and to have fun while doing so. Participating in these different events has helped me decide on a career in counseling. With this decision, I plan on majoring in Psychology followed by a PhD and then pursuing a career in suicide prevention counseling.
