But this does not stop my desire to become a dentist. Most Hispanic immigrants don't realize how lucky they are to be in a country that values education and hard work, and I value these essential characteristics. I worked hard on my English, which for me, moving from an ESL class to a Dual Credit class was one great academic achievement. have found all Science classes interesting since I was in fourth grade, because Science studies how nature works, how it evolves and grows and dies, and all my life I have found deep passion for how life correlates with chemistry and physics. So when I moved here to America, and the public school offered a Health Science program, I immediately signed up for it, and it opened my eyes to what I really would like to do with my life, which is to help and serve the community. My plan for my undergraduate is to major in Biology and minor in business, because these subjects will help me succeed to go in to dental school. I would like to be the first one in my family to graduate from high school and get a degree. Dentistry is a beautiful field in which I can combine things that I enjoy like Biology and Chemistry, but also Art, because making someone's smile perfect requires a good sense of art. Dentistry is a career in which I can help someone gain confidence and health, like while in the Health Science Program at the ATC. Through this scholarship I believe that rely dream of becoming a dentist will be well supported. lG l LAST NAME,FIRST NAME PRINT PRINT PRINT CAMPUS NAME 9 O Ar ViS01 LATINO [jJYES ❑NO US CITIZEN or RESIDENT OES []NO or❑ SB 1528 Signed Application 52 ES ONO ESSAY 16YES ONO Univ Letter of Admittance EOVES [:]NO High School Transcript RrYES ONO ACT or SAT Report DfES ❑NO Committee;President; ❑YES—Disqualified Scholar related: Contributor? Milestones, such as being accepted to the University of Texas at Austin's McCombs School of Business, have shown me that my hard work in my academics is finally paying off. At this university, I will be able to learn from experienced faculty and have diverse networking opportunities. However, I know that I still have a long road ahead of me to achieve my goals of becoming an accountant and a business owner. I believe that the knowledge and experience I will acquire through my studies will prepare me to overcome any obstacles. As a student, I know I can persevere through challenges by applying the skills I gained in high school. In varsity orchestra, I came to value the importance of practicing outside of school. As captain and co-captain of the swim and water polo teams, I gained leadership skills and the endurance to be consistent in my efforts. This discipline will help me prevail in difficult times. I will be able to utilize the resources around me to succeed and in return give back to my community. In high school, I was committed to volunteering for National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and other organizations. By reading to bilingual students at Robert E. Lee Elementary, tutoring math students in Talent Search, timing at swim meets, working concessions at soccer games, and managing the scoreboard at water polo games, I continued to satisfy my personal lifelong goal of contributing to my community. In college, I will continue to volunteer, and as my skills improve, I will be able to positively impact my community on a larger scale. The momentum I gained in high school will launch my progress in college where I will make my goals a reality. &I)COK)o > 2, 0 l LAST NAME,FIRST NAME PRINT PRINT PRINT CAMPUS NAME Ynn n M 1]-,16 [& O LATINO YES ON( US CITIZEN or RESIDENT NYES [:]NO or❑ SB 1528 ' Signed Application YES ONO ESSAY YES ❑NO Univ Letter of Admittance YES ❑NO High School Transcript NYES ❑NO ACT or SAT Report YES ❑NO Committee,President; ❑YES—Disqualified Scholar related: Contributor? ❑NO-CONTINUE ❑YES—Disqualified ANYTHING MISSING? ❑YES 00 ❑NO—CONTINUE &fold GPA: AP Classes ❑ CONVERT 4*GPA 4 .4 RANK & IJ' d %: 1. In addition, please discuss any community service or extracurricular activities you have been involved in that relate to your goals. Often times in our moment of need we are at the mercy of others and their capabilities. It has always been a goal of mine to aid others; which is why I wish to enter the medical field primarily in rehabilitation or forensic anthropology. I realize that school has given me multiple outlets to express and tailor my goals via academics and extracurricular activities. Criminal justice and the application of Forensic Sciences are becoming paramount in protecting the voiceless and those who demand true justice. Taking classes in Forensic Science and Principles of Law has enlightened me on my path for helping others. Athletic Training has also been one of the key foundations in my desire to help others by entering the medical field to help rehabilitate the injured and prevent further injuries from occurring. The many hours spent both on and off the field doing Athletic Training has helped me develop a strong drive and dedication. My commitment to civic participation and to medicine is also why I took my disaster response class which resulted with me C.E.R.T. certified. As a result, when disaster strikes I have what it takes to aid people in their time of need. I'd be remiss if I did not include how profound being in my schools' youth LULAC has been to me; as aiding my community and honoring my Latino heritage is something I'd never think I'd have the opportunity to do and I hope to carry it forward throughout my life. Everything I have done, for better or worse it has lead me to my goals. The fact of the matter is, I just want to help people in any way possible and this scholarship will absolutely help me achieve that. As long as I can remember, my parents have obtained multiple jobs in order that I have better opportunities. They have instilled in me that education is the key to success. My mother comes from a family of migrant workers. She has shared stories of waking up in the crack of dawn and working until the hot sweltering sun beat on her back only to come to a home in which they ate whatever vegetable or fruit they were picking. She went to college so that she would have a job that did not entail working outside. The rule at my home is, college is a must. Everything I have done to this point, keeping up my grades, preparing for a deluge of exams and my participation in all the orchestral performances has brought me to Texas Tech University. As a prospective Biology major my sights are on the School of Nursing at Health Science Center. I have taken AP and Pre- AP classes to challenge me throughout my high school years. I have been in Orchestra all four years of high school three of which has been in the Chamber Orchestra. I played in numerous concerts but to me the most memorable one is the yearly Veteran's Day concert. It is an honor to play for these inspiring individuals who are driven by a sense of purpose. During the summer of 2016, while visiting my Aunt Sylvia and Uncle Jerry, I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Guadalupe Social Services Food Bank in Florida. Volunteering was a meaningful way to help in the community. Though my time at the food bank no doubt connected me directly to those I was helping- I knew that every can was nourishment for someone that had an empty stomach. I knew my mission entailed more than stocking shelves. I am extremely grateful for this experience. Applicant's signature required. Giving my time and energy to someone in need is my calling in life. I want to be an educator along with becoming a motivational speaker. I have taken so many academic courses to prepare myself for the Education field. I have done community service and extracurricular activities to strengthen myself into becoming a more humble, nurturing, and involved person for my community. The classes I have taken to prepare myself for my desired profession as an educator are; Principles of Education and Training, Principles of Human Service, Child Guidance, Child Development, and an internship with an Career and Technology complex where I go to an elementary or middle school to receive realistic training on becoming an educator. I have volunteered at Nelson Elementary School festivals, Upward Bound recruitment day, TAFE UIL fundraisers, Presbyterian Church Daycare, and others. All of these services has helped my communication skills, confidence, and community. I have also been in extra curricular activities such as French Club, Teacher Association of Future Educators (TAFE), and TRIO Upward Bound. I have been parliamentarian, and secretary for theses clubs. I have been in Upward Bound for four years to help me understand what is necessary for college, what you need to do to get accepted, and what happens after acceptance. Everything that I have done in my high school career has been to expand my skills and comprehension on becoming a more involved person, an educator with great communication skills, getting a degree in Education, and how to obtain that degree. I am passionate and determined to make communities better and well educated. I have prepared myself and want to take the next step to obtain a life where I can educate children and speak to people who need positivity in their life. Applicant's signature required. My passion for this university grew when I first visited the school during the winter of 2015. Ever since, I have gone above and beyond to make sure my academic interest, personal perspective, and leadership skills all match the values of their institution. For example, the field of my interest is Forensic Science knowing that the University of Central Oklahoma has one of the top forensic science programs in the nation, will prepare me academically, mentally and psychologically for the hardships of this professional career. My academic interest will bring innovated ideas that involve critical thinking for the growth of the program and scholarly activities. The activity that I have most interest in is baseball. I have been part of the Ryan Baseball team for four years. Baseball has taught me remarkable experiences that I will continue using in life. For example, leadership would be one of them. Having this skill will help me become someone in life as I have learned to be a role model for others. Some of the extra activities that I am involved in school include a volunteer club called Key Club, where student members perform acts of service for their communities, such as cleaning up parks, collecting clothing, and organizing food drives. Another group that I'm connected with is PALS which stands for Peer Assistance, Leadership, and Service. In this group, each PAL student works individually with assigned students and anyone new referred by counselors or teachers. Being involved in these activities has made me create a better understanding of how I can use my personal skills to succeed in life. lG FUST NAME,FIRST NAME PRINT PRINT PRINT CAMPUS NAME C efts 116 k 916LVI LATINO [ YES ❑NO US CITIZEN or RESIDENT t/YES ONO or❑ SB 1528 Signed Application EYES ❑NO ESSAY [DYES [:]NO Univ letter of Admittance ❑+AYES [:]NO High School Transcript [KYES ❑NO ACT or SAT Report [ YES [:]NO Committee,President, ❑YES—Disqualified Scholar related: Contributor? Before you can reach your first ideal job, professional or even personal goals in life, you must take certain classes that will a contribute to your goals. Some may believe academic studies are the way to go, while others believe that electives, such as art&photography can get you pretty far in life. I believe that academic studies can help me major into a career of my choice, and also help me obtain general knowledge that can help me out later on in my future career Academic studies can help me major into a career of my choice later on in life, like my professional goal. For instance, my Certified Nursing Assistant(CNA) class can help me obtain a major into the nursing field. Working in the nursing field is an ideal job for me because I love helping out the community, especially with people's health, which is the most important thing of the human body. This class can help me major into the career I want, which is nurse,or even pediatrician by starting me off, working in the hospital and adding on to it as I go through college and obtain a greater position. This class can help me get certified to become a nursing assistant and obtain a job right after high school. Working in the medical field also has its downside moments, for instance, many people are too sick and can die on your watch, which you can't prevent no matter how much you tried. I attend the nursing home for the CNA class, and when I hear about residents passing away, especially when I met them it makes me really sad,but there's not much to do anymore. Those who enter the medical field typically have a desire to impact the lives of others and provide valuable assistance to those who need it. Providing the care we would like to have is what is given to patients. Academic studies like CNA, can help you major into the career of your choice. Academic studies can also help me out on obtaining the general knowledge I would need to help me out in my personal goals. For example, my math class, which at the moment is precalculus can help me obtain my personal goal. My personal goal at the moment is becoming a math teacher. Math is my favorite subject, and also the only subject I really understand and make good grades on. My math class will help me reach my goal by obtaining more and more knowledge I would one day use to teach a class. The only downside to this goal is that kids can be really stressful and I don't always have so much patience. I am the oldest sibling, I have two little brothers, and trying to have patience for them is like finding a needle in a haystack. It's possible, but hard and stressful too. General knowledge that will help me out in my personal goals is obtained through academic studies. Therefor, academic studies can help you major into a career choice you want, and help you learn the general knowledge you would need for that career. My CNA class and my math class are a great thing to have, especially considering it's a pro toward my professional goals. Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change your world. This means that education can change your perspective on things and pursue you to achieve your goals. l LAST NAME,FIRST NAME PRINT PRINT PRINT CAMPUS NAME 9 LATINO YES ❑NO US CITIZEN or RESIDENT YES [:]NO or❑ SB 1528 Signed Application YES ❑NO ESSAY YES [-]NO Univ Letter of Admittance 79YES ❑NO High School Transcript YES ❑NO ACT or SAT Report YES ❑NO Committee;President ❑YES—Disqualified Scholar related: Contributor? Out of all of these activities I like to look at one in specific, because this particular sport has encouraged me and taught me so much about life itself, and this sport is Boxing. Life is similar to a boxing match in that you have punches or challenges being thrown at you that you have to dodge, you have to use the knowledge you've gained during training to fight back and beat your opponent. Life can bring you challenges that you might think are worthless or not worth stressing over, but with the right mentality, if you just put the time and effort into doing the little things it can help you accomplish the big; and the moment you do accomplish it, it will all pay off. All the stressing, all the challenges and difficulties begin to seem worth doing because you have finally gotten to the trophy of success. The trophy in which represents all your hard work and dedication, and all your time and effort. In my life currently, I am still striving for that trophy, still aiming for a sense of direction towards success. Every day I am given tests, reviews, projects, homework assignments, essays, etc. as well as maintaining a job, playing music, and being a mentor for younger kids. These are my challenges, these are my tasks at hand, this is my training. Training for the future, training for the trophy that none of my parents got to achieve, it is a trophy that I will be the first of family to get, it is a trophy that I will never forget. rGDENTON l LAST NAME,FIRST NAME PRINT PRINT PRINT CAMPUS NAME —3) Ll LATINO YES ONO US CITIZEN or RESIDENT YES ❑NO or❑ SB 1528 Signed Application YES []NO ESSAY YES [I]NO Univ Letter of Admittance 2JYES ❑NO High School Transcript EMYES ❑NO ACT or SAT Report YES ❑NO Committee,President; ❑YES—Disqualified Scholar related: Contributor? — 6 O-CONTINUE []YES—Disqualified ANYTHING MISSING? ❑YES O ❑NO—CONTINUE &fold IV q 6" ) •-7 5-.V ,( h GPA: AP Classes ❑ CONVERT ft GPA 't .6 RANK & V 1. Coming from immigrant parents, getting to college can seem like a very far-fetched idea. My parents don't earn much and sometimes make just enough to put food on the table. Struggling is something that I've had to deal with on a daily basis, so it's nothing new to me. If anything, I am thankful that I've had to struggle because it helped form the basis for very humble ideals. My parents always told me that helping someone is a greater reward than any amount of money one could receive. That ideal has stuck with me throughout the entirety of my lifetime, and is what I'm bringing onto the next level of my education.Although my initial plan is to pursue a psychology degree,I may also consider doing social work. I'd like to come back to my roots and help those who may be struggling to achieve their goals. One way I could do it may be as a mentor, a G.O.A.L. mentor to be specific. Back when I was in middle school,I joined the G.O.A.L.program just so I could keep myself busy after school while my mom gat extra hours in at work. The benefits I've reaped from the program have been more than what I expected. Joining G.O.A.L. not only provided me with a soccer team that I was dying to play in, but it also provided me with a safe hang out place, good mentors, and a platform from which I could grow from. I'd like to provide that for other kids as well but first, I must earn my degree. tG LAST NAME,FIRST NAME PRINT PRINT PRINT CAMPUS NAME LATINO t2YES ❑NO US CITIZEN or RESIDENT YES ONO or❑ SB 1528 Signed Application &IYES ❑NO ESSAY SES ❑NO Univ Letter of Admittance ❑YES []NO High School Transcript YES ❑NO ACT or SAT Report Committee;President; ❑YES-Disqualified Scholar related: Contributor? ❑NO-CONTINUE [-]YES-Disqualified ANYTHING MISSING? The achievement of continuing my studies in college will guarantee the growth of productivity in the country as I will become a criminal investigator and furthermore benefit the rest of society with my contribution as a viable member in the labor force. r r LAST NAME,FIRST NAME PRINT PRINT PRINT CAMPUS NAME O LATINO MYES [:]NO US CITIZEN or RESIDENT VYES [:]NO or❑ SB 1528 Signed Application 56YES &NO ESSAY YES ONO Univ Letter of Admittance YES VNO High School Transcript YES []NO ACT or SAT Report YES ❑NO Scholar related: Committee;President; ❑YES—Disqualified Contributor? Also, I have taken extra curricular activities that have impacted me in a positive way, such as PALS, Talent Search, CNA Internship, and Denton County Teen Court and LULAC Youth Council. I have learned to help my community to the best of my abilities and explore non traditional things that I can do to help others when they need it the most. In PALS we mentor kids that need more help than others, we try to help them if they need friends to talk to or having a hard time in school, we as pals try to be there when they need us and be a friend to them; and in times of need, they will know that we will be there to help them. I also take a CNA internship where we are taught how to take care of the elderly since they sometimes have no family to take care of them, and most of the time are too sick to take care of themselves. This internship helps makes me feel better, because i know i am doing something positive and definitely making someone else feel better. Beside taking care of the elderly I will also get certified as a nurse assistant and can later on work at a hospital or nursing home to put our certification to work. And as a volunteer attorney at Denton Municipal Court we try to better teenagers that have violated the law and give them options on what they can do to better the community. tG LAST NAME,FIRST NAME PRINT PRINT PRINT CAMPUS NAME 9 O TU r 14 . cl LATINO UYES [:]NO US CITIZEN or RESIDENT [:]NO or❑ SB 1528 Signed Application S ❑NO ESSAY ES [—]NO Univ Letter of Admittance ES ❑NO High School Transcript ES [:]NO ACT or SAT Report hkS [:]NO Committee;President ❑YES—Disqualified Scholar related: Contributor? -CONTINUE ❑YES—Disqualified ANYTHING MISSING? ❑YE ❑N CONTINUE &fold GPA: AP Classes ❑ CONVERT 0 GPA RANK I 4 3 & 5 G 9 1. Throughout my time at Ryan, I have taken many classes that have helped me advance my knowledge in the business world. Principles of Business, Marketing and Finance, Business Information Management 1 & 2, and Entrepreneurship have helped me go further in depth on how to manage a business, how business works, and the qualities and characteristics one needs to be successful in the business world. These classes have helped me be able to learn that it is very important to have an open mind and to be able to interact with other people. I've seen and practiced the various tasks you would usually do in business related job and have tried to learn more and more about what to expect once I am able to peruse my career in business. I am part of French Club, Key Club, Talent Search, and National English Honors Society. participated in the Turkey Roll in Key club where we helped people and motivated bicyclists to keep on going. I am involved in my church, helping hosting our garage sale that we have every year and being part of the annual festival we have for the kids. These interactions and opportunities i was giving have prepared me for my future. Being involved in the community help me meet new people and learn from them to grow as a man and hopefully one day, a business man. In middle school I was also apart of GOAL my 7th and 8th grade year. I was chosen to be the captain by my teammates, which helped me learn to be a leader and help others on the process. As an incoming freshman and a first generation college student I see college as a football game. When I put myself into a football game type atmosphere I see four quarters to win the game or in reality four years to graduate. College is where I have to start fast and finish faster just like in football, but it's a tough road ahead to reach my goal in life.My goal in life is to graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering and be the first person in my family to graduate. As the youngest in the family it was encouraged on me to finish high school and go to college, which in about three months will be. I'm not the smartest person in the shed, but I'm excited about the new journey I'm about to embark on and what this journey will show me. For being a shy person and not very outgoing it's going to be a difficult to make new friends, but I'm going to exceed my own expectations. In college i will join groups who will push me out of my comfort zone and help me grow as a person and while doing that i will make good friends forever. As a religious man going to church every sunday is joy and not going makes me feel like i missed something out of my day. Either way my friends will push me to be a better student in and outside of the classroom. For pushing me in the classroom will result in me finishing college and getting my degree on time, but it is all up to me. The Student. However, the one thing they all four share in common is their passion for the art of story-telling which guided me towards my career decision. I was initially hesitant at first to become a film- maker. A creative field of work as such guarantees no financial income—we've all heard the tale of the struggling artist. However, I believe the same rule applies to any field of work. A mere career choice doesn't determine your level of success; it's what you manage to do in it, and I have the inspiration, persistence, and skills to reach every goal I have and will set for myself along the way. Said skills I have acquired from both my academics and service to community/extracurricular activity. Through my English classes I gained the mindset of what creates a compelling story which in the movie-making world is what matters most. The accumulation of devices like imagery, metaphors, symbolism, and foreshadowing are all concepts enriching a story. The method of these detail-like concepts interweaving with each other is an essential skill I've bestowed from my English courses. Aside from the academia that inspired me, an obvious contribution to my set of videography skills is my Audio Video Production course. There I've learned the basics, terminology, equipment, and diversity needed in order to save a spot for myself in the industry. Through this class I've been able to film Denton ISD football games at CH Collins to making promotional videos for organizations pertaining to my school such as our Latin Club and SPED program. Opportunities as such are stepping stones to where I want to get in the film-making industry. If it involves a camera and a purpose, I'm gladly your guy. Which includes getting an education and being able to apply that knowledge to my life. My goal, and life dream is to achieve a successful career as a nurse practitioner. To get to this step I must prepare myself through high school, college and nursing school by hard work and dedication that I have earned throughout my young learning years. My personal and professional life will benefit from my academic studies, as they will provide me with skills I will use in the future in the medical field. My personal life will also benefit as I will become a successful person and have the ability to help others in need of care. I am currently in a nursing assistant program in which I go to the nursing home, I learn and improve every day with the skills I have earned since day one, and I will use them at my state board test to be certified. I will then be able to work at a hospital or nursing home as a CNA, while I continue my education towards Nursing and build up to my future career as I study at the Texas Woman's University. My language studies have led to my writing of a novel and the intent to write another as I currently work on a collection of short stories, and in Spanish have aided me in my travels to the island of Cuba for the Pan-American Judo Championships, where I was the group translator as we navigated the streets of Havana, an experience that really gave me an appreciation for the globalization of the world we live in and the way our trade practices can shape cultures. Global business, how it interacts with government, economic principles, and the ability to convey one's work and aspirations, as well as how to treat people and weigh the outcome of actions, are all skills I have learned in and outside of school. With a degree in business management, I intend to start my own company of technologically precise tailoring with old world skills and materials to create clothing, shoes, and accessories that are stylish, modern, and quality enough to last a lifetime as classic articles of masterful raiment. A lofty aspiration, drawing artisan designers and craftsmen and women from around the world to grow in a competitive market of luxury with the goal of proving that the right idea can come from anywhere and grow into something spectacular; not easy, but worthwhile to prove that to dream is to succeed. No members of my family went to college, so when I was 16 years old I decided to improve myself by traveling to the United States to study. While in Mexico,I was a student with the best grades and the president of my class. However, there is something inside that always tells me to strive for greater things and look for new experiences. This journey has been very difficult, due by learning a new language. I could not communicate well or understand what people were telling me. But, not knowing English forced me to put more effort into learning. I constantly strived to improve myself instead of giving up. I have been living here for two years now and this is my third year. In addition to the challenge of learning English, my last few years have not been easy because of family issues. My mom had a surgery for a congenital heart problem that caused her tachycardias, an abnormally rapid heart rate. She had a successful operation but a short while ago she suffered from facial paralysis. My father is 64 and in the past few years his health has gotten worse. I am a person who enjoys challenges and helping those who need assistance. I have a goal of eventually volunteering and working towards improving the living conditions of indigenous peoples in Mexico. To get started, I am currently helping people at my school who do not speak English to improve themselves. I am so thankful for the challenges I have endured because through them I have learned determination and to have hope, and through hope I know that success will occur. l l LAST NAME,FIRST NAME PRINT PRINT PRINT CAMPUS NAME V ' r d rl 1 L J Sp 'CI-S LATINO YES ON( US CITIZEN or RESIDENT ❑YES [—]NO or SB 1528 Signed Application YES ONO ESSAY YES [:]NO Univ Letter of Admittance YES ❑NO High School Transcript ES [:]NO ACT or SAT Report YES ❑NO Committee;President; ❑YES—Disqualified Scholar related: Contributor? I will use my degree in electrical engineering to improve on current forms of energy and power. I will then use the revenue from my company to complete my goal, helping the less fortunate. I also want to help others by making a less expensive form of energy. Growing up an immigrant, without much, has motivated me to help the less fortunate. I believe helping people is the most important thing you can do throughout your life. Every other tangent thing can be exciting for the moment, like money, but the only thing that actually stays in this world is the impact you leave on people. My mom is the person who's inspired me to pursue this dream; in her youth she was extremely poor and I promised her that I would help people that are going through tough times like she did. Helping others is what i want to do with my life and I believe that this degree in electrical engineering will help me accomplish this. In terms of my professional goals this degree will help me build the foundation to start my business/cooperation in forms of energy. I want my company to be in the same class as companies like Exxon-mobil. Since I don't have the money to help the less fortunate in a big way right now I've been contributing what I can by giving them the only thing I can offer,my time. Through many organizations and clubs I have helped the less fortunate by feeding the homeless, collecting food for children in need, and much more. With this degree, I will help others. Leaning towards a medical profession, more specifically pediatrics, I have prepared myself by taking eight science courses over my high school career to prepare me for the rigors of college. All these classes have helped fuel my interest in the field and ability to help others. I was a part of the first student mariachi group in my area which has helped me work together with others. To make the music sound good and cohesive, it requires a team effort to make sure it all fits together. Playing the vihuela, I would rely on the guitarron to listen to changes in the notes which would imply that I will switch notes. This applies to my field of interest because taking care of a patient requires a team effort. Having worked in a group before, I can apply that to working with others in taking care of the patient. For a class called Job Shadow, I "shadowed" a school nurse where I would observe how she works and the techniques she uses for the young students. I have learned a lot of valuable skills that have a direct application to my field of interest. For example, head injuries happen to be very common and very serious. After checking the head for lacerations and observing if they had developed a bruise, the nurse would flash a light to the patient's eye to see how it reacts. This test assesses whether or not someone has a concussion. In conclusion, my interest in pediatrics has been fueled by my interest in science and in helping others. Pediatrics is an amazing career that I would like to partake in. My intended major, journalism, allows for truly remarkable people to tell their stories. This scholarship will help me realistically fund my education, and, through it, I will have the opportunity to pursue what I care about, helping and participating in my community. Without resources from a university, such as opportunities for internships and the connections a university offers, it is almost impossible to advance in the field. At my future college, they focus on experience by creating classes that focus on experience based,hands-on learning. This is also something I've been able to foster while in high school. I began working on the newspaper as a staff writer and have since advanced to the position of editor. Working as a student journalist,I've learned the importance of initiative, especially when it came to seeking more experience, like contacting my local newspaper to begin an internship. This is initiative is something that expands far beyond my work in journalism. It's also the reason I started my nonprofit organization,PencilsPending, which donates school supplies to local underfunded schools. My community has also had a major impact on me when it comes to pursuing journalism. For the past two years,I've been volunteering regularly at a local retirement home and listening to the resident's stories reminds me why I love journalism. As far as I'm concerned, these past four years have been about more than just sitting in a classroom. Through journalism, I've grown and I've learned how necessary it is to take steps toward change, rather than just talking about it. My education has been and will be about experience, and I fully intend to use my the opportunities provided by my career to create change in my community. The Principles of Health Science, Health Science class and Health Science Hospital Rotations program this year, have offered me a great opportunity to learn and observe basic skills that would help me in the medical field. By seeing how patients are treated and the many processes taken when caring for them, I have learned to be focused, secure, and precise on what I do to give them the appropriate care. I am very patient with people and I am easy to get along with, so when I am given the opportunity to participate in their care, I apply my patience and knowledge skills to find out what their needs are, so they can feel better and more comfortable. These academic studies are an advantage in reaching my professional and personal goals because of all the information and learning skills I am acquiring before starting college will help me prepared and help those in need. I am part of the National Honor Society, Key Club, French National Honor Society, French Club, Church Youth Group, and Talent Search. Moreover, I participated in the Turkey Roll, fall festival for elementary school kids, and Project Adoption. At church, I also did service by rebuilding the new youth room at my church, serving in the choir, altar, fall festival, and the annual garage sale. All these activities keep me involved in my community and give me the opportunity to interact with people of different qualities. Given that this two year program consists of classes that are college level, I feel that it has aided my preparation for college. The major I plan to pursue is Environmental Engineering. This will require knowledge of both different math types and environmental issues. I am currently taking IB Environmental Systems and Societies and IB math studies. These two courses have increased my understanding of the subjects, and given that they are college credit courses, I feel I will be informed at a greater extent once I enter college. Through Lulac, I increased the knowledge I had about Immigrants and hispanic empowerment, as well as a variety of ways in which to reach out to different people. That year, I also became an IB diploma candidate; one of the requirements being to create a CAS project, which is a student initiated project of(C)reativity, (A)ction, and(S)ervice. Thanks to our Lulac Youth#1126 sponsor, I was able to create a workshop which informed of immigrant rights and opportunities. We provided attorneys, officers, financial aid administrators, and NTDT representatives to speak to those who participated in the workshop. As time passed, I was eventually elected President of the council the second semester of my junior year, and currently hold that position. Sharing this interest with the members of our council have allowed us to truly succeed in our want for recognition and to disprove the idea that all immigrants are criminals. Having this goal in mind, I constantly translate for organizations regarding education or public information, such as tax filing or new legislation. In any case, everyone has their own opinion of how they feel once they see something instantly. Whether it's an ad or a piece of artwork in a museum. No one will have EXACTLY the same ideas, and that's what makes visual representation of the world so retrospective and unique. People's personalities come out through their visual art. Therefore, when they provide to the public something they've created, there are different aspects derived from our own cultures and experiences that flourish in the way we thrive in the way we see things. Visual representation creates a dialogue among people that is unspoken. They always say how actions speak louder than words well so does visual art. It encourages us to truly think about how something is defined and that there's more than just something to look at. There is a voice speaking out through the way they portray their visual art; furthermore, it is the most powerful language our society has ever had the opportunity of living with, and visual representation has influenced many people through our past and will continue to do so throughout life as we speak. Provided with this type of blessing has shown I can create a vision in business and make it work to better a corporation.
