Tim Sanchez DISD TIM SANCHEZ: about me
Background:
i ani; tuSi at c1 foremost, a husband, a son and the proud father of five beautiful girls.
As a former gang member/leader, I chose teaching as profession so I could have the opportunity to work with kids; impart on
students the value of education, and intervene in youth's lives before they get too deep into that lifestyle. Having found a
renewed faith in my Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, I was able leave that part of my past behind me and start using my talents
and skills for positive purposes. I started an after-school program for high-risk youth in the Spring of my first year teaching
called Students Against A Violent Youth (SAaVY). We focused on projects that keep the kids busy so as to keep them out of
trouble and feel like a part of the community as a whole_ I have since converted the SAaVY program into the PALS class and
an after school LULAC Youth Council. Both focus on community servicelinvolvement, advocacy; and mentoring of younger
students as a way to build stronger youth and informed citizens.
On a slightly different note; I was born and raised in Altus, OK and I am a proud Sooner. I have taught here at Denton High
School since I graduated from OU in 2002 and graduated with my credentials in Educational Administration from UNT in 2014.
1 have taught Physics I; ESL Physics, AP Physics B and Pre-AP Physics I feel I have been successful at all levels and look
forward to the challenge of motivating more minority students to get involved with upper level science classes.
Teaching Philosophy:
I ueiieve every cnila nas the potential to succeed. It is my job as an educator to find a way to motivate each student to want to
succeed.
