RE: Naming a Denton ISD School in Honor of Dr. Rudy Rodriguez
li is an honor to seize this extraordinary opportunity to encourage the Denton ISD Board
of Trustees to name a school in honor of Dr. Rudy Rodriguez. The selection of a person
for this recognition evokes a high level of respect and honor for the many positive
contributions over a period of time. It is rare to identify a worthy candidate for this
prestigious recognition for that person will represent the high academic standards set by
the school district and the commitment to the school community to take pride in the name
of their child's' school.
Dr. Rodriguez has accumulated a distinguished history of advocating for social justice
that encompasses educational initiatives and programs at multiple levels in support of
educators and students. His contribution to the area of second language learning as a
professor, researcher and presenter is underscored by the highly successful grant writing
that has helped so many educators attain their professional credentials. He is recognized
at the state and national level for his leadership in promoting effective academic and
language programs for students to succeed. His efforts in helping to develop written and
video materials highlighting the historical growth and contributions related to bilingual
education has been recognized as a highly informative instructional tool.
Dr. Rodriguez has freely given of his time and energy and thinking as a leader in the
community, the metro area, the state, and as a school board member. I recall many
instances where his deep dedication to promote and highlight an educational or social
need was readily and expertly shared with school and community leaders. His extensive
command of both English and Spanish language skills has served him well when he
has shared information to community members whose primary language is Spanish.
Dr. Rodriguez's unselfish work to promote the accomplishments and skills of worthy
colleagues and leaders within the community is also well noted. Additionally, his passion
for seeking solutions and strategies that benefit everyone is unparalleled. He is quick to
assess the needs of students, educators and organizations and then moves forward to
find the best solution.
It is without hesitation that I recommend and support Dr. Rudy Rodriguez as a
candidate worthy to have a public school named in his honor.
Thank you for this opportunity.
Sincerely,
Frank S. Davila, Ph.D.
