Public Meetings & Agendas | Denton, TX (civicplus.com) General Information & Status Updates A.Denia Park Renovation Project – The Denia Park Renovation project is currently in progress and expected to be completed in 11 months. The project includes replacing several sections of the trail for ADA compliance and improving the existing ballfields with new turf,dugouts, fencing, gates, bleachers, tables, and shade structures. During this time, Denia Parkplaygrounds and courts will remain accessible, apart from the ballfields. Portions of the parktrail will be closed during the project as those sections are replaced. Staff contact: Ryan Brumfield, Parks and Recreation B.Downtown Denton Ambassador Program Pilot Update – The Downtown Ambassador pilotprogram launched Jan. 2024. The attached progress report provides an overview ofactivities and feedback for the first two quarters of the calendar year. Staff contact: Courtney Douangdara, Community Services Responses to Council Member Requests for Information A.Allowable Home-Based Businesses – On July 12 and Sept. 11, Council Member Holland shared an inquiry regarding an in-home occupation in the City. The 2002 DentonDevelopment Code allows for therapeutic-type medical offices as home occupations. TheCity’s zoning compliance team inspected the site six times between July 19 and Aug. 7 andfound the property in compliance. Staff contact: Scott McDonald, Development Services B.Woodmere Conservation Easement Buffer – On Aug. 11 and Sept. 11, Council Member Holland was included in communication from a resident regarding investigating theconservation easement buffer. Staff advised the resident that the City has a contractor toclean up the conversation easement. Work started on Sept. 5 and is currently underway.Staff contact: Cassey Ogden, City Manager’s Office C.Encampment – On Sept. 9, Council Member Byrd inquired about an encampment betweenbusinesses on Teasley Lane. Staff visited the site and provided resources to one individualon the property. Staff also spoke with the property owners regarding cleanup and otherrecommendations for the property. Staff contact: Dani Shaw, Community Services D.Future Land Use Map – On Sept. 9, Mayor Hudspeth inquired about the future land use ofEast University Drive. Staff provided the attached maps and additional information. Staffcontact: Scott McDonald, Development Services E.Commercial Waste Container – On Sept. 9, Mayor Hudspeth inquired if a commercialwaste container on a construction site belonged to the City. Staff visited the site,determined it was a third-party container, and advised the general contractor that only city-issued containers are permitted for use. The contractor is currently working towardscompliance. Staff contact: Brian Boerner, Solid Waste and Recycling 2 F.Trash near Denton Municipal Electric (DME) site – On Sept. 9, Mayor Hudspeth inquiredabout trash and debris near a DME substation. The debris was removed, and the area wascleaned up. Progress Report Calendar Year 2024: Q1 & Q2 The Downtown Denton Ambassador Program launched late January 22, 2024. Since only eleven days of data were tracked in January, these numbers are not included in the charts. The Downtown Denton Ambassador Program helps maintain a clean, safe and thriving Downtown Denton. Employed through a third party vendor, Block by Block, Ambassadors are on site seven days a week to provide cleaning and hospitality services, community assistance and a friendly, smiling face. Page 1 of 2 Since its launch in January 2024, Ambassadors have greeted over 43,000 downtown visitors with friendly smiles and helpful assistance, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that encourages people to explore and enjoy. 4 DOWNTOWN BUSINESS FEEDBACK Heat map of Q1 and Q2 Ambassador Activity A business feedback survey is circulated with downtown Denton businesses quarterly. Feedback received is summarized below. Future reports will include a summary of feedback from general community members collected beginning in August 2024. Page 2 of 2 Resident, business owner and visitor insights are invaluable in shaping the future of our community. Community members may complete the Community Feedback Survey online anytime by using the QR code. Downtown businesses seeking access to the Business Feedback Survey may email info@mainstreet.org. 77% of businesses feel the current hours of operation meet their needs, and 65% are satisfied with overall safety. Downtown businesses have noticed a decrease in litter and increase in cleanliness in the area. Business identified a need to increase power washing, and City staff are working with Block by Block to increase the frequency of this service downtown. "They do great when they stop by and say hi, introduce themselves and ask if there's anything we may need. AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, REGARDING A CHANGE IN THE ZONING DISTRICT AND USE CLASSIFICATION FROM A RESIDENTIAL 2 (R2) ZONING DISTRICT TO A GENERAL OFFICE (GO) ZONING DISTRICT ON APPROXIMATELY 9.462 ACRE OF LAND, GENERALLY LOCATED AT THE NORTHWEST INTERSECTION OF EAST UNIVERSITY DRIVE AND NORTH TRINITY ROAD, IN THE CITY OF DENTON, DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS; ADOPTING AN AMENDMENT TO THE CITY'S OFFICIAL ZONING MAP; PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY IN THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF $2,000.00 FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE. The findings and recitations contained in the preamble of this ordinance are incorporated herein by reference and found to be true. SECTION 2. The zoning district and use classification for the Property is hereby changed to General Office (GO) Zoning District. SECTION 3. Ifany provision of this ordinance or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid by any court, such invalidity shall not affect the validity of the provisions or applications, and to this end the provisions of this ordinance are severable. SECTION 5. Any person, firm, partnership or corporation violating any provision of this ordinance shall, upon conviction, be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by fine in a sum not exceeding $2,000.00 for each offense. Each day that a provision ofthis ordinance is violated shall constitute a separate and distinct offense. SECTION 6. In compliance with Section 2.09(c) of the Denton Charter, this ordinance shall become effective fourteen (14) days from the date of its passage, and the City Secretary is hereby directed to cause the caption of this ordinance to be published twice in the Denton Record - Chronicle, a daily newspaper published in the City of Denton, Texas, within ten (10) days of the date of its passage.
