2025-037 Residential Solid Waste Service Day Change Date: March 28,2025 Report No. 2025-037
INFORMAL STAFF REPORT
TO MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
SUBJECT:
Residential Solid Waste Service Day Change
BACKGROUND:
The City of Denton Solid Waste and Recycling Department(SWR)provides collection service to
residents on a four(4) day per week schedule. Routes are designed to balance travel distance and
house count to ensure customers are serviced promptly and efficiently while managing the
workload of the drivers and the department. Due to the growth of the City's western sector and
increased traffic, staff has experienced challenges in its ability to provide service and complete
routes on time. Projected growth in this area indicates that these challenges will intensify without
proactive intervention.
SWR will reallocate approximately 1,161 customer service days from Monday to Thursday,
effective June 2, 2025, to mitigate immediate service issues and prepare for anticipated growth in
the Monday service sector.
DISCUSSION:
The City of Denton SWR Department provides a robust collection service to its residents. To
maintain service quality amidst increasing demand, a strategic adjustment to collection routes is
necessary. This adjustment entails transitioning approximately 1,161 residential service days from
Monday to Thursday.
