WHEREAS, April 22, 2025, marks the 55th anniversary of Earth Day, a global movement
dedicated to raising awareness and promoting action for the protection of our
planet and its resources;and
WHEREAS, the theme for Earth Day 2025, "Our Power, Our Planet," underscores the
collective responsibility and potential of the City of Denton to address urgent
challenges;and
WHEREAS, today,with the help of the Denton Municipal Electric,the City is proud to share
that it serves 64,000 customers with 100%renewable clean energy.Denton is the
only city in Texas to be able to operate each residence and business on 100%
renewable energy,and leads the nation with more wind power per capita than any
other city.
NOW,THEREFORE, I, Gerard Hudspeth, Mayor of the City of Denton,Texas,do hereby declare and
proclaim the 22nd day of April 2025 as the date to recognize
"EARTH DAY 2025: OUR POWER, OUR PLANET"
in the City of Denton.
