1999-290\\CH LGL\VOI~BSHARED\DEPTxLOL\Our Documents\Ordmances\99~ammal cremation doc NOTE Amended by Ordinance No. 2000-461 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS AMENDING ARTICLE I OF CHAPTER 6 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES RELATING TO "ANIMALS" BY ADDING SECTION 6-38 TO PROVIDE FOR THE CREMATION OF ANIMALS BY THE CITY OF DENTON ANIMAL SHELTER, PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, the City of Denton animal shelter provides for the cremation of ammals that are lmpotmded at the shelter, and WHEREAS, the cremation of ammals allows for a safe and humane way to dispose of deceased anunals, and WHEREAS, it would be ~n the interest of the City of Denton to allow ~nd~vldual owners and residents to have ammals cremated at the C~ty of Denton animal shelter, and WHEREAS, allowing the City of Denton ammal shelter to cremate animals from md~mdual owners and residents would promote the health, safety and welfare of the people of the C~ty of Denton, NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAiNS SECTION 1 That Chapter 6 of the Code of Ordinances t~tled "Ammals" is hereby amended by adding Section 6-38 which shall read as follows 6-38. Cremation of animals An owner or resident may bnng an animal or animals to be cremated at the city's ammal control facility and shall be assessed and pay for each animal the fee established by city council and on file m the office of the mty secretary for the handling of the crematmn Tlus fee shall be m addition to any fee established by See 6-36 of flus Chapter SECTION 2 If any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, phrase or word m this ordinance, or appheaUon thereof to any person or c~rcumstance ~s held mvahd by any court of competent junsdmt~on, such holding shall not affect the val~dlty of the remalmng portions of this ordinance, and City Council of the City of Denton, Texas hereby declares it would have enacted such remmmng portions despite any such ~nvahdlty ~ That save and except as amended hereby all the remmmng sections, subsections, sentences, phrases and clauses of Chapter 6 of the City Code shall remmn in full force and effect SECTION 4.
