AN ORDINANCE LEVYING THE AD VALOREM TAX OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS,
FOR THE YEAR 1999, ON ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS
OF THE CITY ON JANUARY 1, 1999, NOT EXEMPT BY LAW, PROVIDING REVENUES
FOR PAYMENT OF CURRENT MUNICIPAL EXPENSES, AND FOR INTEREST AND
SINKING FUND ON OUTSTANDING CITY OF DENTON BONDS, PROVIDING FOR
LIMITED EXEMPTIONS OF CERTAIN HOMESTEADS, PROVIDING FOR ENFORCEMENT
OF COLLECTIONS, PROVIDING FOR A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, after not~ce of a public hearing on a tax ~ncrease was pubhshed m accordance
with the law, on August 31, 1999, the City Council held a public hearing on a proposal to adopt a
tax rate of $0 50815 per $100 valuation wbach would increase total tax revenues from property on
the tax roll by 7 77%, and
WHEREAS, at the end ofth~s pubhc heanng, the City Council passed a resoluUon se~ng the
tax rate meeting and announcing that ~t would vote on the tax rate at ~ts September 7, 1999 meeting,
wtuch resolution specified the tane and place of this meeting, and
WHEREAS, after the public hearing and before the September 7, 1999 meetang, the City
Council published a Not~ce of Vote on Tax Rate in accordance with the law, and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it m the pubhc interest to adopt a tax rate for the 1999
tax year, NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION 1. That by authority of the Charter of the C~ty of Denton, Texas, and the Laws of
the State of Texas, there is hereby lemed for the year 1999, on all taxable property situated wulun
the corporate hrmts of the City of Denton on January 1, 1999, and not exempt by the Constatutton
and Laws of the State of Texas or by Sections 4, 5, and 6 of ttus ordinance, a tax orS0 50815 on
each $1001 assessed value of all taxable property Tbas tax is expected to increase total revenue from
properties on the tax roll by 7 77% over 1998 tax revenues
SECTION 2 That of the total tax, $0 31948 of each $100 of assessed value shall be
distributed to the General Fund of the City to fund mmntenance and operation expenditures of the
City
SECTION 3 That of the total tax, $0 18867 of each $100 of assessed value shall be
dlsmbuted to pay the City's debt sermee as pmmded by Section 26 04(e)(3) of the Texas Property
Tax Code
SECTION 4. That pursuant to Article VIII, Section 1-b of the Texas Constitution, and
pursuant to the pmwsions of Section 11 13(n) of the Texas Property Tax Code, one-half percent of

the assessed value of resldentml homesteads, or $5,000 of the assessed value of residential home-
steads, wtuchever mount shall be greater, shall be exempt from City ad valorem taxes
SECTION 5 That pursuant to Arttcle VIII, Section 1-b of the Texas Constitution, $25,000 of
the assessed value of mmdentml homesteads of persons 65 years of age or older shall be exempt
from C~ty ad valorem taxes
SECTION 6. That pursuant to Artmle VIII, Section 1-b of the Texas Conmtutlon, $10,000 of
the assess,d value of residential homesteads of disabled persons shall be exempt from City ad
valorem taxes
SECTION 7 That for enfomement of the collection of taxes hereby lewed, the City of
Denton shall have available all rights and remedaes provided by law
SECTION 8. That If any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause, phrase or word ~n
tlus orrhnance, or the application thereof to any person or c~mumstance is held invalid by any court
of competent junschct~on, such holding shall not affect the validity of the remmmng pomons of this
ordanance and the City Council of the City of Denton, Texas, hereby declares ~t would have enacted
such remaining portions despite any such mvahd~ty
SECTION 9 That tlus ordinance shall become effective tmmedmtely upon ~ts passage and
approval
