City of Denton Announces Finalists for City Attorney Position
Citizens Invited to Meet Candidates at wept. LD Keception
DENTON, TX, Sept. 15, 2017—On Sept. 12,the City Council announced the following five
finalists for the position of Denton City Attorney:
Stephen Button—County Attorney, County of St. Lawrence, State of New York
Courtney Goodman-Morris—Attorney, Courtney Goodman-Morris, Attorney at Law
Julian Grant—Principal, Law Offices of Julian Grant
Victoria Huynh—Deputy City Attorney, City of Plano
Aaron Leal—Interim City Attorney, City of Denton
"The City Attorney is a crucial member of Denton's leadership team," said Mayor Watts. "We
were very impressed with the candidate pool and confident in these five finalists."
The Council started the selection process in June by working with Dallas-based executive
recruitment firm Springsted I Waters ("Waters")to launch a nation-wide search for candidates. A
total of 29 applicants responded, and Waters narrowed the list to 11 potential semifinalists for
Council's additional review. Council Members reviewed the semi-finalists at the Sept. 12 City
Council meeting and selected finalists based on the candidate applications, resumes, and other
supplemental materials. The Council will conduct interviews on Sept. 25 and 26, and the selected
finalist is expected to begin in late October/early November.
As part of the interview process, the City is hosting a community reception on Monday, Sept. 25
from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Civic Center, 321 E. McKinney St. The reception, which is open to the
public, is an opportunity for citizens to meet the finalists and provide feedback to the Council.
Citizens are welcome to attend at any time during the reception.
