Denton Hires New City Attorney
DENTON, TX, Oct. 11, 2017—Aaron Leal, who was serving as the City of Denton's Interim
City Attorney, has been selected as the new City Attorney.
Denton's City Council officially offered Leal the position as part of last night's Council meeting.
The offer follows a nationwide search by Dallas-based executive recruitment firm Springsted
Waters ("Waters"). A total of 29 applicants responded, and Waters narrowed the list to 11
potential semifinalists for Council's additional review. Council Members reviewed the semi-
finalists at the Sept. 12 City Council meeting and selected five finalists based on the candidate
applications, resumes, and other supplemental materials.
The five finalists for the position participated in a community reception on Monday, Sept. 25,
which gave residents the opportunity to meet the finalists and provide feedback to the Council.
Mayor Chris Watts congratulated Leal on his new position, adding, "I am confident in Aaron's
abilities as an attorney and I know he will continue to be an excellent leader."
