Baker • (940) 349-8234 • Lindsey.Baker@cityofdenton.com City Hires New Assistant City Manager DENTON,TX,May 1,2017—Todd Hileman, City Manager, has announced the appointment of Mario Canizares as Assistant City Manager for the City of Denton. Canizares comes to Denton with a strong reputation as a prominent leader at the local, regional, state, and national levels, bringing more than 20 years' experience in local government. He most recently served as the Deputy City Manager for the City of Coppell, where he directed all departments and led the Coppell 2030 Vision plan and Re-imaging campaign. Prior to Coppell, Mario served as the Assistant City Manager/City Secretary for the Town of Addison and in a variety of management positions in the cities of Hurst, Carrollton, and Lufkin. "Mario is recognized as a collaborative and innovative leader in North Texas,"Hileman said. "His proven experience, high energy, and passion for local government demonstrate the qualities that I am seeking for my management team and that will help us continue to lead the City of Denton forward." Canizares stated, "I am very excited to be part of the City of Denton and to work alongside many well-respected individuals. Denton is a wonderful place with many exciting changes in the works, and I'm humbled that Todd asked me help him lead in that effort." Canizares holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Texas (UNT) and a Bachelor of Arts from Stephen F. Austin. He is a member of various city management associations in North Texas and is a graduate of the North Texas Commission's Leadership North Texas Class VII and Leadership ICMA. Canizares is also an ICMA Local Government Management Fellow Board Member, serves on the UNT Public Administration Advisory Board, and received the UNT 2016 Alumnus of the Year award.
