AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO
97-255 PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION OF
POLICE OFFICER, PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH
CLASSIF[[CATION OF FIRE FIGHTER, PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE, PROVIDING
A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, on September 2, 1997, the C~ty Council passed Ordinance No 97-255 to
implement the recommendation of the Flrefighters' and Police Officers' Civil Service
Commmmon of the C~ty of Denton, Texas, upon the recommendation and request of the D~rector
of C~wl Servme, Denton Pohce Department, and Denton Fire Department, adopting and
approwng a schedule of Authorized Potations which relates to compensation and clasmficatlon of
police officers and fire fighters, and
WHEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No 97-255, the Pohce Department has
determined that thru ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of
Police Department potations to add ten (10) pohce officer positions, NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I That Ordinance No 97-255 is hereby amended by adopting the schedule
prescribing the number of potations for each clasmficatlon ofpohce officer and fire fighter ~n the
City of Denton, attached hereto and incorporated by reference herein as Exhibit A, ~s hereby
approved
SECTION II That all prowmons of the ordinances of the City of Denton in conflmt with
the provm~ons of thru ordmance are hereby repealed, and all other prowmons of the ordinances of
the City of Denton, not m conflmt w~th the prommons ofth~s ordinance, shall remmn ~n full force
and effect
SECTION III That if any prommon ofth~s ordinance or apphcat~on thereof to any person
or c~rcmnstance m held ~nvahd, such lnvahdlty shall not affect the other provisions or
apphcatlons, and to this end the provm~ons of this ordinance are severable
SECTION IV, That tlus ordinance shall become effective ~mmedlately upon ~ts passage
and approval

WHEREAS, on May 12, 1998, the C~ty Council passed Ordinance No 98-124 to
~mplement the recommendation of the F~refighters' and Pohce Officers' C~vll Service
Commission of the City of Denton, Texas, upon the recommendation and request of the Director
of Civil Service, Denton Pohce Department, and Denton Fire Department, adopting and
approving a schedule of Authorized Posmons wbach relates to compensation and classification of
police o£ficers and fire fighters, and
WHEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No 98-124, the Police Department has
detenmned that tins ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of
Pohce Department posmons to ebmmate one (1) Assistant Cbaef pos~tion, ehm~nate one (1)
Lieutenant position, and add one (1) Sergeant posmon, and add one (1) Police Officer position,
NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I That Ordinance No 98-124 ~s hereby amended by adopting the schedule
prescribing the number ofposmons for each classification ofpol~ee officer and fire fighter m the
City of Denton, attached hereto and incorporated by reference herein as Exhablt A, ~s hereby
approved
SECTION II That Ordinance 98-124 and all prior ordinances or resolutions of the City
of Denton m conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of any such conflict
SECTION III That if any prows~on of this ordinance or appheat~on thereof to any
person or circumstance is held invalid, such mvahd~ty shall not affect the other provisions or
apphcalaons, and to this end the prowslons of tNs ordinance are severable
SECTION ~ That this ordinance shall become effective ~mmed~ately upon its passage
and approval
