AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO
98-124 PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION OF
POLICE OFFICER, PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH
CLASSIFICATION OF FIRE FIGHTER, PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE, PROVIDING
A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, on May 12, 1998, the City Council passed Ordinance No 98-124 to
implement the recommendation of the Flrefighters' and Police Officers' Civil Service
Commission of the City of Denton, Texas, upon the recommendation and request of the Director
of Civil Servme, Denton Police Department, and Denton Fire Department, adopting and
approving a schedule of Authonzed Positions which relates to compensation and classification of
police officers and fire fighters, and
WHEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No 98-124, the Police Department has
determined that this ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of
Police Department positions to eliminate one (1) Assistant Chief position, eliminate one (1)
Lieutenant position, and add one (1) Sergeant position, and add one (1) Police Officer position,
NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I That Ordinance No 98-124 is hereby amended by adopting the schedule
prescnbmg the number of positions for each classification ofpohce officer and fire fighter in the
City of Denton, attached hereto and incorporated by reference herein as Exhibit A, is hereby
approved

of Denton m conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of any such conflict
$1~CTION III That if any provision of this ordinance or application thereof to any
person or circumstance is held Invalid, such lnvahdlty shall not affect the other provisions or
apphcatlons, and to this end the provisions of this ordinance are severable
~ That this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage
and approval

WHEREAS, on September 15, 1998, the City Council passed Ordinance No 98-
293 to implement the recommendation of the Flrefighters' and Police Officers' Clwl
Service Commission of the City of Denton, Texas, upon the recommendation and request
of the Director of Civil Servme, Denton Police Department, and Denton Fire Department,
adopting and approving a schedule of Authorized Positions whmh relates to
compensation and classification ofpobce officers and fire fighters, and
WHEREAS, since the passage of Ordinance No 98-293, the F~re Department has
determined that this ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total
number of F~re Department pos~tions to ehmtnate one (1) Deputy Fire Chief pos~tton, and
add two (2) Battalion Chief poslt~ons, and add two Captain positions, and add five (5)
Driver pos~t~ons, and twelve (12) fire fighter positrons, NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION 1 That Ordinance No 98-293 is hereby amended by adopting the
schedule prescribing the number of posit~ons for each classfficat~on of police officer and
fire fighter in the C~ty of Denton, attached hereto and incorporated by reference herein as
Exhibit A, is hereby approved
SECFION 2 lhat Oidmance 98-124 and all prior o~dmances o~ ~esolutlons el
the C~ty of Denton m conflict herev~th are hereby repealed to the extent of any such
conflict
