AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY COUNCIL, UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES
SET FORTH HEREIN, TO HOLD MEETINGS OUTSIDE OF CITY HALL, VALIDATING
PREVIOUS MEETINGS AND ACTIONS, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City Hall or the Denton Mumc~pal Bufldmg ~s m the process of bemg
renovated and Is not available for C~ty Councd meetings during the pemod of renovation due to
lack of appropnate space to accommodate all members of the pubhc, lack of proper access to
persons w~th dmabd~t~es and due to potential dangers and ~nconvemence to the members of the
general pabhc durmg construction, and
WHEREAS, the C~ty Councd from t~me to t~me may need to hold meetings away from
C~ty Hall to serve the pubhc ~nterest, NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS
SECTION I The C~ty Council, for the period from July l, 1997 until the Councd
Chambers m the C~ty Hall at 215 East McKlnney Street, are completely renovated and ready for
pubhc use shall hold all ~ts meetings m the Pohce Department Conference Room, the Central
Jury Room and other areas of the Denton Mumc~pal Complex at 601 East I-hckory Street,
Denton, Texas, unless ~t directs the meetmgs be held m another location by ordinance or
resolution
SECTION II That the C~ty Council shall hold meetings on the budget begmnlng at 9 00
a m on August 8 and August 15, 1997 ~n the Golden Eagle Sate in the Umvermty of North
Texas Union Balding at Prmne at Avenue A, Denton, Texas
SECTION III In accordance w~th section 2 05 of the C~ty Charter and section 4 1 of the
Rules and Procedure of the C~ty Councd, the C~ty Council may from t~me to t~me hold joint
meetings w,th the Denton Independent School D~stnct, workshop meetmgs, retreat and budget
meetings and regular and specml meet,ngs m places away from C~ty Hall that are readdy
accesmble to all members of the pubhc so long as the Mayor announces the location of that
meeting at the meetmg of the C~ty Council immediately proceedmg the meeting and, a motion or
ample resolution m approved by at least four members of the Council, approwng the meetmg
ate All such meetmgs shall be held m accordance with Chapter 551 of the Government Code
SECTION IV All prewous meetmgs and all actions taken at those meetmgs held at a
location other than the C~ty Hall at 215 East McKmney Street, mclud~ng, w~thout hm~tat~on, any
joint meetmgs w~th the Denton Independent School Dmtnct and the Denton Plannmg
Commmmon, any workshops or retreats, are hereby affirmed, ratified and approved
SECTION V That this ordtnance shall become effective immediately upon its passage
and approval
