AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPROVE CONTRACTS
AND CHANGE ORDERS NOT TO EXCEED A CERTAIN AMOUNT, AUTHORIZING THE
CITY MANAGER, THE CITY ATTORNEY, AND THE RISK MANAGER TO SETTLE
CLAIMS NOT TO EXCEED A CERTAIN AMOUNT, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE
WHEREAS, TEX LOC GOV'T CODE §252 048(c) authorizes the governing body ora
mumc~pal~ty to grant general authority to an adm~mstrat~ve official of the mun~opal~ty to ap-
prove change orders involving a decrease or an ~ncrease of $25,000 or less, and
WHEREAS, sound risk management prmoples and the pubhc interest mdxcate that
clmms agmnst the C~ty should be chsposed of efficiently, and
WHEREAS, ~t ~s m the pubhc interest to authorize flus general authority to approve con-
tracts and change orders not to exceed $25,000 to the City Manager and authorize the Oty Man-
ager, the Oty Attorney, and the Risk Manager acting as a clmms commgtee to approve clmms
not to ex~eed $25,000 w~thout the necessity of Council action, NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I That the C~ty Manager or, m h~s absence, the Deputy C~ty Manager,
hereby authorized to approve contracts and change orders mvolvmg $25,000 or less or an m-
crease or Idecrease of $25,000 or less, prowded, however, where reqmred all such contracts shall
be awarded m comphance w~th competitive bidding laws
SECTION II That a clmms conumttee composed of at least three persons, including the
C~ty Manager or the Deputy City Manager, the C~ty Attorney or the Lmgat~on Attorney, and the
Rask Manager, ~s hereby granted the authority to settle and resolve all elmms against the C~ty ~n
the amount of $25,000 or less
S~CTION III That flus ordmance shall become effective immediately upon ~ts passage
and approval
