AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO
97-145 PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION OF
POLICE OFFICER, PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFI-
CATION OF FIRE FIGHTER, REPEALING ALL PRIOR INCONSISTENT ORDINANCES
AND RESOLUTIONS TO THE EXTENT OF ANY SUCH CONFLICT, PROVIDING A RE-
PEALER, AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, on May 20, 1997, the City Council passed Ordinance No 97-145 to imple-
ment the recommendation of the F~refighters' and Pohee Officers' C~wl Service Commission of
the C~ty of Denton, Texas, upon the recommendation and request of the D~rector of C~vll Serv-
ice, Denton Pohee department and the Denton F~re Department, adopting and approwng a
schedule of Authorized Pomt~ons which relates to compensation and elasmfieat~on of police offi-
cers and fire fighters, and
WHEREAS, mnce the passage of Ordinance No 97-145, the Police Department has de-
termined that th~s ordinance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of
Pohee Department potations and to add nme additional police officer pomt~ons, NOW, THERE-
FORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
~ That Ordinance No 97-145 xs hereby amended by adopting the schedule
prescribing the number of pomtxons for each clasmficat~on of pohce officer and fire fighter m the
City of Denton, attached hereto and mcorporated by reference herein as Exhibit A, m hereby ap-
proved
~ That Ordinance No 97-145 and all prior ordmances or resolutxons of the
City of Denton, Texas, in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of any such conflict
~ That th~s ordinance shall become effective ~mmedmtely upon ~ts passage
and approval

A SEVERAB[LITY CLAUSE, AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, on September 2, 1997, the Ctty Councd passed Ordinance No 97-255 to
~mplement the recommendatton of the Ftrefighters' and Pohce Officers' C~vll Service
Commtsston of the Ctty of Denton, Texas, upon the recommendation and request of the Dtrector
of C~wl Servtce, Denton Pohce Department, and Denton F~re Department, adopting and
approving a schedule of Authorized Postttons which relates to compensation and classfficatlon of
pohce officers and fire fighters, and
WHEREAS, stnce the passage of Ordinance No 97-255, the Pohce Department has
detemuned that thts ordtnance needs to be amended to more correctly reflect the total number of
Pohce Department postttons to add ten (10) pohce officer pos~t~ons, NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SET~ That Ordinance No 97-255 ~s hereby amended by adopting the schedule
prescribing the number of positrons for each classfficat~on of pohce officer and fire fighter m the
C~ty of Denton, attached hereto and ~ncorporated by reference heretn as Exhibit A, ts hereby
approved
~ That all provlstons of the ordtnances of the C~ty of Denton tn conflict wtth
the provlstons of th~s ordinance are hereby repealed, and all other prows~ons of the ordmances of
the C,ty of Denton, not ~n confhct with the provtslons of this ordinance, shall rematn tn full force
and effect
~ That ~f any prowston of th~s ordinance or apphcat~on thereof to any person
or circumstance ts held mvahd, such mvahdtty shall not affect the other provisions or
apphcattons, and to th~s end the pmms~ons of th~s ordinance are severable
~That thts ordinance shall become effective lmmedmtely upon ~ts passage
and approval
