AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A BICYCLE I~NE ON THE EAST SIDE OF
FORRESTRIDGE DRIVE BETWEEN HOBSONLANEAND RYAN ROAD; PROVIDING FOR
A PENALTY NOT TO EXCEED $200.00; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE,
AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION I That the City Traffic Engineer shall designate
bicycle lanes established by the City Council by the placement of
appropriate signs and road markings.
SECTION II. That the following streets or portions of streets
are hereby designated bicycle lanes.
A lane approximately eight and a half (8 5) feet in width
measured from the curb along the east side of Forrestridge Drive
from its intersection with Hobson Lane to its intersection with
Ryan Road.
SECTION III. That when signs and markings are in place giving
the existence of any bicycle lane established by this ordinance, it
shall be unlawful for any person:
(1) To operate a bicycle along any portion of the roadway
except within the portion of said roadway which is designated as a
bicycle lane;
(2) To operate a motor vehicle, motorized bicycle, motor-driven
cycle, or motorcycle along and within a bicycle lane;
(3) To park a motor vehicle across or on a bicycle lane, except
for authorized emergency vehicles to obtain emergency parking; or
(4) To make or execute a turn when driving a motor vehicle
across a bicycle lane without yielding the right-of-way to all
bicycles operated within the lane.
SECTION IV That any person who violates a provision of this
ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not
to exceed Two Hundred ($200.00) Dollars.
SECTION V. That if any section, subsection, paragraph,
sentence, clause, phrase or word in this ordinance, or application
thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid by any court
of competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not affect the
validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance, and the City
Council of the City of Denton, Texas, hereby declares it would have
enacted such remaining portions despite such invalidity
SEC~ That this ordinance shall become effective
fourteen (14) days from the date of its passage, and the City
Secretary ls hereby directed to cause the caption of this ordinance
to be published twice in the Denton Record-Chronicle, the official
newspaper of the city of Denton, Texas, within ten (10) days of the
date of its passage. ~d
