AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A COMPETITIVE SEALED PROPOSAL AND AWARDING
A CONTRACT FOR THE PURCHASE OF MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT, SUPPLIES OR
SERVICES, PROVIDING FOR THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS THEREFORE, AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the C~ty has sohc~ted, received and tabulated competitive sealed proposals for
the purchase of necessary materials, equipment, supplies or services in accordance w~th the
procedures of state law and City ordinances, and
WHEREAS, the City Manager or a designated employee has reviewed and recommended
that the herein described proposals are the best responsible proposals for the materials, equipment,
supplies or services as shown in the "Proposals" submitted therefor, and
WHEREAS, the City Cotmcfl has provided ~n the City Budget for the appropriation of funds
to be used for the purchase of the materials, equipment, supplies or servtces approved and accepted
herein, NOW, THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I That the numbered items in the following numbered bids for materials,
eqmpment, supphes, or servxces, shown in the "Proposals" attached hereto, are hereby accepted and
approved as being the best responsible proposal for such ~tems

specfficatlons, standards, quantities and for the specified sums contained in the Inv~tations,
Proposals, and related documents
SECTION III That should the City and persons submitting approved and accepted items and
of the submitted proposals wish to enter into a formal written agreement as a result of the
acceptance, approval, and awarding of the proposal, the City Manager or h~s designated
representative ~s hereby authorized to execute the written contract whmh shall be attached hereto,
prowded that the written contract is in accordance w~th the terms, conditions, specifications,
standards, quantities and specffied sums contained in the Proposal and related documents herein
approved and accepted
SECTION IV That by the acceptance and approval of the above numbered ~tems of the
submitted proposals, the C~ty Councd hereby authorizes the expenditure of funds therefor tn the
amount and tn accordance wtth the approved proposal or pursuant to a written contract made

SIJMMARYI Tius proposal is for the purchase of hardware and software to install a pilot program
to evaluate the feamblhty of installation and retrofit of"Blll to Management Apartments" residential
electric meters Th~s system will electromcally/automatlcally read meters through power lines,
thereby reducing cost of service, ehmlnate human error, report tampenng and power outages, and
reduce the cost of reading meters

was July 25, 1995 Two vendors subnutted quotes, Schlumberger and Hunt Technologies
Inc
After careful evaluation of pricing and all required criteria therein, we have dec~ded to
award Hunt Technologies Inc the Automated Metenng Pilot Project Hunt Technologies
subrmtted the lowest price and complied with the criteria needed by the City of Denton's
pilot project
In our current 1995-1996 operating budget we have $75,000 dollars allocated m cap~tol
projects (#96-1034-02) for the Automated Metenng Pilot Project The quote from Hunt
Technologies is slgmficantly lower than projected Therefore, we can double the
number ofmstallations Also, we can accelerate the t~me frame revolved for full
~mplementatmn of the Automated Metering for "BIll to Management Apartments"
