AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 26
(VEHICLES FOR HIRE) OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES TO PROVIDE FOR A
TEMPORARY INCREASE IN TAXICAB RATES; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, in 1989 the City of Denton set the present taxicab
mileage rate at $1.10 a mile; and
WHEREAS, since then gasoline prices have risen by approximately
thirty percent; and
WHEREAS, the City is studying a permanent rate structure that
would account for the volatility of gasoline prices; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to grant a temporary increase
pending the completion of the study; NOW, THEREFORE;
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION I. That section 26-52 (a) of the Code of Ordinances is
amended to read as follows:
Sec. 26-52. Taximeters; rates to be charged.
(a) Passengers will be charged as determined by the taxi-
meter a minimum fare of one dollar and thirty cents
($1.30) including the first one-tenth (1/10) mile plus
thirteen cents ($0.13) for each additional one-tenth
(1/10) mile from the point of pickup to destination.
SECTION II. That this ordinance shall become effective
immediately upon its passage and approval.
