Date: March 9, 2018 Report No. 2018-026 INFORMAL STAFF REPORT TO MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL SUBJECT: Hotel Occupancy Tax Rates BACKGROUND: The City Council recently requested information regarding how the city of Denton’s hotel occupancy rate compared to other Texas cities. Attached is the most current (2016) listing provided by the Texas State Comptroller which provides city populations, the total hotel occupancy tax percentage collected by properties and the break out between the city and the state percentage.
