ly submi tied Ll~d V Harrell / Ct ty )lanager Prepared by t hh J Marshall, C P M rchasing Agent Approved tle Purchasing Agent MEMO 87-O62 TO Mr. John Marshall, Purchasing Agent FROM J L Cook, Jr , Fire Chief ~ DATE 1 December, 1987 RE Award of Bid No 9799 I would like to submit the following recommendations concerning the award of the items contained in Bid No. 9799 1. 1500 GPM Pumping Englne I would recommend that we ac- cept the bid from General Safety for three (3) identical units The first of which to be delivered within 180 days of the receipt of the order, and the remaining two to be delivered within 360 days of the receipt of the order While they were the only bidder, they are certainly qualified to build the specified units Ail the major suppliers of apparatus are capable of building similar units and were given equal opportunity to b~d They ob- viously declined Our bid ~e unique in that it was a commercial chassis A similar "custom" fare apparatus chassis would add between $14,000 00 to $20,000 00 to the price of each unit We do not have enough money to purchase such a unit Therefore, we would have to buy less of a truck by taking off many of the options con- tained in the specifications This would be unfortunate and rehult in a much less desirable vehicle If we are forced to rebid, there will be a costly time delay We need these vehicles as soon as possible to shore-up our aging fleet 2 Radios - No award - Items #110 and 111 3.
