AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING AND ESTABLISHING A SCHOOL SAFETY SPEED
ZONE ON PAISLEY DRIVE FROM A POINT APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET WEST
OF ITS INTERSECTION WITH MACK DRIVE TO A POINT 130 FEET EAST OF
MACK DRIVE, AND ON MACK DRIVE FROM THE SOUTHERN CURB LINE OF ITS
INTERSECTION WITH LEE DRIVE TO THE SOUTHERN CURB LINE OF DOUBLE
OAK STREET AT ITS INTERSECTION WITH MACK DRIVE, REDUCING THE
MAXIMUM PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMIT FROM THIRTY (30) TO TWENTY (20)
MILES PER HOUR, PROVIDING A PENALTY OF A FINE NOT TO EXCEED TWO
HUNDRED DOLLARS ($200 00), PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, AND
DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I
Based upon an engineering and traffic investigation, the
C~ty Council hereby designates and establishes a school zone on
Pa~sley Drive from a point approximately 200 feet west of ~ts
~ntersect~on wlth Mack Dr~¥e to a point 130 feet east of Mack
Dr~ve, and on Mack Drive from the southern curb line of
intersection w~th Lee Drive to the southern curb l~ne of Double
Oak Street at Its ~ntersectlon with Mack Dr~ve, and hereby
determines that the reasonable and safe maximum prima facle
speed l~m~t on sa~d portions of Pa~sley Dr~ve and Mack Drive
twenty (20) m~les per hour when school ~s ~n session between the
hours of ? 30=9 00 A M and 2 30-4 00 P M
SECTION II
When s~gns are erected g~wng notice thereof and when school
~s ~n session at the Robert E Lee Elementary School, the
reasonable and safe maximum prima facle speed l~m~t on sa~d
portions of Pa~sley Drive and Mack Dr~ve shall be reduced from
thxrty (30) to twenty (20) mlles per hour
SECTION II1
An lnd~wdual adjudged guilty of exceeding th~s speed l~mlt,
when signs are erected giving not~ce thereof, shall be guilty of
a m~sdemeanor, and punished by a f~ne not to exceed Two Hundred
Dollars ($200 00)
SECTION IV
That if any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence,
clause, phrase or word in this ordinance, or application thereof
to any person or circumstance is held invalid by any court of
competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not affect the
validity of the remaining portions of th~s ordinance, and the
City Council of the City of Denton, Texas, hereby declares it
would have enacted such remaining portions despite any such
Invalidity
SECTION IV
That this ordinance shall become effective fourteen (14)
days from the date of ~ts passage, and the C~ty Secretary is
hereby directed to cause the caption of th~s ordinance to be
published twice ~n the Denton Record-Chronicle, the official
newspaper of the City of Denton, Texas, within ten (10) days of
the date of ~ts passage
