Denton Area Organizations Work Together to Host a Back to School Fair
DENTON, TX,June 12,2018—Denton area community organizations and nonprofits have
collaborated to host the Denton Back to School Fair on Saturday, August 11, from 8 a.m. to 3
p.m. at Denton Bible Church. The goal of the event is to serve families with school supplies,
backpacks, health education resources, and so much more. The Denton Back to School Fair
anticipates serving close to 3,500 children.
"I am proud of the hard work of our community groups and nonprofits, who have come together
to provide support to families in Denton," said Mayor Chris Watts. "This fair will provide much-
needed supplies and resources to many families throughout Denton."
In the Denton Independent School District alone, there are over 12,000 students, or 44% of the
student population, that are eligible for free and reduced lunch, which means their household
income is at or below 185% of the federal poverty level. The Back to School Fair event is
designed to help local families, so students can walk into their first day of school with a new
backpack and school supplies and parents have access to the resources they need for their
children to have a healthy start to the school year.
Community support is vital and necessary for this event to serve the number of children that truly
need these resources. The nonprofit organizations are seeking contributions from area
businesses, community leaders, and individual donors to serve these children. Every$20 donated
will provide a backpack and school supplies for one student. Donations can be made through the
Denton Back to School Fair website at www.dentonbacktoschool.org.
