AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 14 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF
THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS TO PROVIDE FOR AN AMENDED DEFINITION
OF JUNKED VEHICLES, AMENDING THE AMOUNT OF THE PENALTY FOR
VIOLATIONS FOR MAINTAINING JUNKED VEHICLES TO PROVIDE FOR A
PENALTY IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $1,000 00, AND PROVIDING FOR
AN EFFECTIVE DATE
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I
That Section 14-26 of Division 2 of Chapter 14 of the Code
of Ordinances of the City of Denton, Texas, is amended by
amending the definition of junked motor vehicle as follows
Junked vehicle means a motor vehicle as defined in
Article 6 0 d- 1, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes
(1) that is inoperative, and
(2) that does not have lawfully affixed to it either an
unexpired license plate or a valid motor vehicle
safety inspection certificlate, that is wrecked,
dismantled, partially dismantled, or discarded, or
(3) that remains inoperable for a continuous period of
more than 45 days.
SECTION II
That Section 14-31(a) of Chapter 14 of the Code of
Ordinances of the City of Denton, Texas, is amended to read as
follows
Sec 14-31 Filing in municipal court
(a) If the person ordered by the administrator or board
fails to abate or remove a junked motor vehicle, or
a part thereof, and fails to request hearing before
the board within the time required, or, if after a
hearing before the board, the board orders removal
of the junked motor vehicle, or part thereof, and
the person so ordered fails to comply with such
order within ten (10) days, the administrator may
cause to be filed a complaint in municipal court
A person found guilty of any provision of this
division shall be punished by a fine in an amount
not to exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000 00)
Each day on which a violation of this division
occurs shall constitute a separate offense
SECTION III
That this ordinance shall become effective fourteen (14)
days from the date of its passage, and the City Secretary is
hereby directed to cause the caption of this ordinance to be
published twice in the Denton Record-Chronicle, the official

the date of its passage
