1983-099398L AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 17 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANLES OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, BY ADOPTING THE APPENDICES TO THE 1979 EDITION OF THE UNIFORM PLUMBING CODE, PROVIDING FOR CERTAIN DELETIONS AND AMENDMENTS TO THE 1979 EDITION OF THE UNIFORM PLUMBING CODE, INCREASING MINIMUM PLUMBING PERMIT FEES AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON, IEXAb, HEREBY ORDAINS PART I That Paragraph (a) of Section 17-2, Chapter 17, Artxcle I of the Code of Ordxnances of the City of Denton, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows (a) The Uniform Plumbing Code, 1979 Edition, and Appendices A through I thereto, as recommended by the International Asso- clatlon of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, a copy of which shall be flied with the Office of the Cxty Secretary as Document No 4 and be available for public Inspection, is hereby adopted and designated as the Plumbing Code of the City of Denton, Texas, the same as though said Edition of such code and the appendices thereto were copied at length herein, subject to the deletions and amendments enumerated hereafter (1) (No change from Ordinance No 81-20) (1~1) Amend Section 315 (f) to read No soil or waste pipe shall be installed or permitted outside-o£ a building or in an exterior wall unless adequate provision is made to protect such pipe from freezing All water piping run in an exterior wall, attic, or crawl space shall be adequately insulated to protect from freezing (2) (No change from Ordinance No 81-20) (3) (No change from Ordinance No 81-20) (4) Amend Section 318 2(b) to read (b) Media The plplng of the plumbing, drainage and venting systems shall be tested with water or air The administrative authorIty may require the removal of any clean- out, etc , to ascertain if the pressure has reached all parts of the system After the plumbing fixtures have been set and their traps filled w~th water, they shall be submitted to a final test All fixtures designed to retain water, such as lava- tories, sinks, bathtubs, laundry trays, etc , shall be filled w~th water to the overflow level and shall retain same for flteen (15) minutes w~thout leakage when requested by the Plumbing Inspector ($) Amend Section 401 to read (a) Drainage pipe shall be cast iron, galvanized steel, galvanized wrought iron, lead, copper, brass, ABS or PVC having a smooth and uniform bore, except (1) That no galvanized steel pipe shall be used underground and shall be kept at least six (6) inches (152 4mm) above ground (2) ABS or PVC installations are permitted in buildings not exceeding three (5) stories in height {b) Drainage fittings shall be of cast ~ron, malleable iron, lead, brass, copper, ABS or P¥C having a smooth interior waterway of the same diameter as the piping served and all such fittings shall conform to the type of pipe used (1) F~ttlngs on screwed pipe shall be of the recessed drainage type Burred ends shall be reamed to the full bore of the pipe (Z) The threads of drainage fittings shall be tapped so as to allow one tourth (1/4) inch per foot (20 9 mm/m) grade (6) (No change from Ordinance No 81-20) (7) (No change from Ordinance No 81-20) (8) (No change from Ordinance No 81-20) (8 1) Delete Section 904 (b), Connections (9) ~No change from Ordinance No 81-20) (9 1) Amend Section 1004 (a) to read (a) Water pxpe and fittings shall be of brass, copper, cast iron, galvanxzed malleable iron, galvanized wrought iron, galvanxzed steel or lead Schedule 40 PVL having the National Sanitation Foundation seal followed by the letters PW may be used for cold water distribution systems outside of buildings Ail materials used xn the water supply system, except valves and similar devices shall be of a like material, except where otherwise approved by the Administrative authority PAGh 2 (10) (No change from Ordxnance No 81-20) (11) (No change from Ordxnance No 81-20) (12) (No change from Ordxnance No 81-20) (13) (No change from Ordznance No 81-20) (13 1) Amend Sectzon 1212 (a) to read (a) All gas pzpxng used for the xnstallatzon, exten- sxon, alteratzon, or repaxr of any gas pzpzng shall be standard wexght wrought zron or steel (galvanzzed or black), yellow brass (contaxnxng not more than seventy-fxve (75%) percent copper), or xnternally tznnea or equivalently treated copper of ~ron p~pe szze Approved PE pxpe may be used xn exterior burxed pxp~ng systems (14)(a)-(14)(c) (No change from Ordinance No 81-20} (14)(d) Alternate methods of supplyzng combustxon a~r In lxeu of other requxrements, combustxon axr supply may be deszgned xn accordance w~th recognized engxneerzng przncxples when fxrst approved by the admxnxstratxve authorxty PART II That th~s ordznance shall become effective zmmedzately upon xtS passage and approval 1983 PASSBD AND APPROVBD th~s the ~_~ day of ~CIT] OF DE~TON, TEXAS ATTEST CHARLOTTE ~LEN, CITY SBCRh'I'~R'~ CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS APPROVED AS TO LEGAL FORM C J TAYLOR, JR , CiTY ATTORNEY CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS PAtE 5
