DENTON PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF LIBRARY BOARD Emily Fowler Library December 19, 2016 Attending: Jean Greenlaw, Bonnie McCormick,Sarah Gamblin,Jennifer Collins, Patrick McLeod, Barbara Halbert Absent:Alice Mankoff Staff: Kimberly Wells City Staff: None CALLED TO ORDER: 5:30 pm PUBLIC FORUM: No members of public present APPROVE MINUTES The October 10, 2016 meeting minutes were approved.Jean Greenlaw made the motion to approve; Sarah Gamblin seconded. LIBRARY REPORT: Quiet Room at South Branch was completed today. It's beautiful.Will provide a quiet area when the library is filled with kids and families. ❑ Terri Gibbs is participating in the TLA Program Committee for the 2018 TLA conference in Dallas.The committee is meeting at the Denton Public Libraries. ❑ Public wifi filtering was turned on at all three branches on Friday.There haven't been any complaints or requests to unblock anything. ❑ Seed library will start in March. City Councilor Sarah Bagheri requested this.Set up partnership with master gardeners. Library will handle storage and distribution; master gardeners will handle questions. Will include vegetable and wildflower seeds FOUNDATION REPORT: ❑ Paid $13,291.76 for BiblioCommons product ❑ Next meeting is February 2017 ❑ CD 13 months at 1.37% return ($100,000) FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY: Bonnie McCormick ❑ Last meeting was in October. Membership is down slightly from last year. Looking at possible causes. ❑ Library requested $25,200 which was tabled until January. ❑ Are encouraging volunteers to give a free book to all kids who come into the book store. ❑ Mold and water damage in storage is being addressed. Not taking donations until storage room is repaired. ❑ Need volunteers for nominating committee.There were no volunteers so everyone will likely keep their same offices. ❑ August 5 book sale may be moved to August 12 for tax free weekend. ❑ Investigating become part of North Texas Giving Day. APPOINTMENT OF REPRESENTATIVE TO FRIENDS OF DENTON PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD ❑ Next meeting is January 12, 2017 ❑ Barbara Halbert volunteered to be the new representative.
