AN ORDINANCE LEVYING THE AD VALOREM TAX OF THE CITY OF DENTON,
TEXAS, FOR THE YEAR 1982) AT THE RATF OF $ 5100 PER $100 00
ASSESSED EVALUATION ON ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN THE CORPORATE
LIMITS OF THE CITY ON JANUARY 1, 1982, NOT EXEMPT BY LAW,
PROVIDING REVBNUES FOR PAYMENT OF CURRENT MUNICIPAL EXPENSES,
AND FOR INTERBST AND SINKING FUND ON OUTSTANDING CITY OF DENTON
BONDS, PROVIDING FOR LIMITED EXEMPTIONS OF CERTAIN HOMESTEADS,
PROVIDING FOR ENFORCEMENT OF COLLECTIONS, PROVIDING FOR A
SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I
That by authority of the Charter of the C~t¥ of Denton,
Texas, and the Laws of the State of Texas, there ~s hereby
lewed for the year 1982, on all taxable property, situated
w~thln the corporate l~m~ts of the C~t¥ of Denton on the f~rst
day of January, 1982, and not exempt by the Const~tutlon and
Laws of the State of Texas or by Section 2 of th~s Ordinance, a
tax of $ 5100 on each $100 00 assessed value o£ all taxable
property which shall be apportioned and d~strlbuted as follows
(a) For the General Fund of the Cxty of Denton, $ 357~
on each $100 00 of assessed value,
(b) For the purpose of creating a s~nk~ng fund to pay
the ~nterest and principal on outstanding bonded
~ndebtedness on all outstanding C~ty of Denton
bonds, not otherwise provided for, $ 1725 on each
$100 00 of assessed value
SECTION II
That pursuant to Artxcle VIII, Section 1-b of the Texas
Constitution, $S,000 00 of the assessed value of resident
homesteads, shall be exempt from C~ty ad valorem taxes
SSCTION III
That pursuant to Article VIII, Section 1-b of the Texas
Constitution, $16,000 00 of the assessed value of resident
homesteads of persons sixty-five [65] years of age or older,
shall be exempt from C~ty ad valorem taxes
SECTION IV
That for enforcement of the collection of taxes hereby
levied, the City of Denton shall have available all rights and
remedies prowded by law
SECTION V
That if any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence,
clause, phrase or word ~n th~s ordinance, or application thereof
to any person or circumstances is held invalid by any court of
competent 3urlsdlctlon, such holding shall uot affect the
validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance, and the
City Council of the City of Denton, Texas, hereby declares it
would have enacted such remaining portions despite any such
invalidity
SECTION VI
That this ordinance shall be effective upon its passage and
approval
