DENTON PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF LIBRARY BOARD North Branch Library January 9, 2017 Attending: Jean Greenlaw, Bonnie McCormick, Barbara Halbert, Alice Mankoff,Jennifer Collins, Patrick McLeod Absent: Sarah Gamblin Staff: Terri Gibbs City Staff: None CALLED TO ORDER: 5:32 pm PUBLIC FORUM: No members of public present APPROVE MINUTES The December 19, 2016, meeting minutes were approved.Jean Greenlaw made the motion to approve; Patrick McLeod seconded. LIBRARY REPORT: Terri Gibbs ❑ Special Collections remodel o Moved reader-printers so they are closer to desk and added larger tables to spread out o Creating a memory maker space o Space looks bigger and microfilm is closer to readers; also created a display space on back of cabinets ❑ Staff schedule task force o Examine the problem of 7-10 day work weeks o Branches have varying schedules o Group of 6-7 people looking into how to address concerns o One suggestion: to close on Sundays- busiest days; open 4 hours o Considering closing Fowler on Sundays and rotating staff to North and South ❑ Staff training goals o CPR/AED and defensive driving every three years required of all staff o Active shooter training added this year o Customer service training around de-escalating emotions in difficult situations o Risk will evaluate all buildings for hazards ❑ Staff changes o Children's librarian from Fowler moving to North and vice versa o North Branch has a new teen librarian o South Branch teen librarian is returning from leave ❑ Ellie Whitmore Bequest o Pending since 2013; received last week; $70,525.76 ❑ Security cameras project o All 11 cameras have been installed and are in use FOUNDATION REPORT: Terri Gibbs ❑ Current balance is$15,651.51 FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY: Barbara Halbert Meeting this Thursday; no updates at this time NEW BUSINESS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS MEETING ADJOURNED: 5:50 pm Respectfully submitted, Jennifer Collins, Secretary
