1982-060AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 24, ARTICLE V OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, BY ADDING SECTION
24-136 RELATING TO PARKING ON PUBLIC PROPERTY FOR DISABLED
PERSONS; DESIGNATING WHERE SUCH PARKING IS SO RESTRICTED,
PROVIDING A PENALTY OF A FINE OF NOT LESS THAN FIFTY DOLLARS NOR
MORE THAN TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS, PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE
AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I
That Chapter 24, Article V of the Code of Ordinances of the
City of Denton, Texas, is hereby amended by adding Section
24-136, heretofore reserved, to read as follows
Section 24-136 DESIGNATION OF PARKING SPACES FOR EXCLUSIVE
USE OF DISABLED PERSONS UPON PUBLIC PROPERTY
(a) When slgns are erected giving notice thereof, no person
shall, at any time, stop, stand, park, or leave standing any
vehicle not displaying a specially designed symbol, tab, or other
device issued by the Texas State Department of Highways and
Public Transportation affixed to the license plates of such
vehicle ind~cat~ng the owner thereof or a passenger therein ~s
permanently disabled or any vehicle not displaying an
Identification card issued by said Department ~ndicat~ng the
operator of such vehicle or a passenger therein is temporarily
d~sabled, at any of the following places, to-wit
(1) One (1) parallel parking space adjacent to the
elevator entrance to the First Methodist
Church on Mulberry Street,
(2) One (1) parallel parking space adjacent to the
elevator entrance to the Texas Building on
Locust Street
(3) One (1) 45 degree angle parking space on Elm
Street ~n front of the premises located at 123
North Elm Street,
(4) One (1) 45 degree angle parking space on
Hickory Street in front of the premises
located at 131 West Hickory Street,
(5) One (1) 45 degree angle parking space in the
middle of the 100 block of North Elm Street
adjacent to the curb ramp,
(6) One (1) 45 degree angle parking space in the
middle of the 100 block of North Locust Street,
(7) Two (2) parallel parking spaces in the parking
lot of the Denton Civic Center near the
hand~capped access ramp,
(8) Three (3) parking spaces at the Denton Senior
Center, 509 North Bell street, on the north
s~de of the building and adjacent to the
access ramp;
(9) One (1) parking space nearest the handicapped
access ramp at the Denton Public Library,
(10) One (1) parking space adjacent to the
handicapped access ramp at the southwestern
entrance to the Municipal Building at 215 E
McKinney Street in the U S Post Office/
Municipal Parking Lot,
(11) One (1) parking space at Mack Park on the
south side of McKlnney Street adjacent to the
sidewalk leading to the tennis courts,
(12) One (1) parking space at Mack Park on the
north side of McKlnney Street adjacent to the
sidewalk leading to the park's concession
stand,
(13) Two (2) parklng spaces at North Lakes Park
nearest the access ramp and entrance to ~aid
park,
(14) Two (2) parking spaces adjacent to the
handicapped access ramp at Den~a Park
(b) The provisions of this section prohibiting the parking of
unauthorized vehicles shall apply at all t~mes to the parking space
and any part of the parking space as designated here~n except when
~t ~s necessary to stop a vehicle to avoid conflict with other
traffic or in compliance with the dlrectlon of a police officer or
official traffic control device
(o) Any person adjudged qullty of parking a vehicle in
violation of this ordinance shall be qu~lty of a m~sdemeanor and
punished by a fine of not less than Fifty Dollars ($50 00) nor more
than Two Hundred Dollars ($200 00)
SECTION II
That if any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause,
phrase or word in this ordinance, or applicat~on thereof to any
person or circumstance is held invalid by any court of competent
jurisdiction, such holding shall not affect the validity of the
remaining portions of this ordinance, and the C~ty Council of the
C~ty of Denton, Texas, hereby declares ~t would have enacted such
remaining portions despite any such ~nvaltdity

SECTION III
That this ordinance shall become effective fourteen (14) days
from the date of its passage, and the City Secretary is hereby
directed to cause the caption of this ordinance to be published
twice ~n the Denton Record-Chronicle, the official newspaper of the
City of Denton, Texas, within ten (10) days of the date of its
passage
