1982-034AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RFSULTg OF THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF DENTON ON APRIL 3, 1982, ORDERING A SPECIAL RUN-OFF ELECTION TO BE HELD ON APRIL 24, 1982, PROVIDING FOR ELECTION OFFICIALS, VOTING PLACES AND ELECTION SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON, HEREBY ORDAINS SECTION I The City Council finds and declares that the April 3, 1982 regular municipal election was duly ordered for the purpose of electing a Mayor and two Councllpersons to Place 5, 6, 7 on the Council, that proper notice of said elect~on was duly given and election official appointed, that said elect~on was duly held and the returns of the election officials have been delivered to the Council, all in accordance w~th the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter and ordinances of the City of Denton SECTION II The official returns of the elect~on officials hav~ng been opened, examined and canvassed, the Council hereby f~nds and declares that 3,485 votes were cast at said election, and that the votes cast for each place on the Council were as follows FOR MAYOR PLACE 7 LUKE DAVID DOHNER 32 votes KATHY ORR 1,008 votes DWIGHT L GAILEY 936 votes RICHARD 0 STEWART 1,444 votes FOR CITY COUNCIL PLACE 6 GRANT JACOBSON 1,069 votes EARL W FITZPATRICK 566 votes JACK Q BARTON 1,576 votes FOR CITY COUNCIL PLACE 5 CHARLES HOPKINS 2,837 votes SECTION III The Council finds and declares that each candidate listed below received a majority of the votes cast for each place on the Council and that each candidate listed below ~s hereby declared to be elected to the City Council of the C~ty of Denton PLACE NO 5-CHARLES HOPKINS and such candidate shall assume the duties of h~s office on the date that he takes the official oath of off~ce SECTION IV The Council hereby finds and declares that no candidate received a ma3orlty of the votes cast for Place 7 and Place 6 and that a run-off election ~s required to elect a Mayor to Place 7 and a Councilperson to Place 6 on the Council SECTION V A special run-off elect~on ~s hereby ordered held in the City of Denton, Texas on the 24th day of April, 1982 for the purpose of electing a Mayor to Place 7 and a Councllperson to Place 6 on the Council At sa~d election only the name of the two (2) candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall be placed on the ballot, to-wit PLACE 7 KATHY ORR RICHARD O STEWART PLACE 6 GRANT JACOBgON JACK Q BARTON SECTION VI The polls for sa~d election on April 24th, 1982 shall be open from 7 00 A M to 7 00 P M , and the election voting places or polling places shall be as follows 1 All qualified voters residing ~n Single Member Dlstr~ct No 1 shall vote at AMERICAN LEGION HALL 629 LAKEY STREET DENTON, TEXAS 2 All qualified voters residing in S~ngle Member District NO 2 shall vote at TRINITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 2200 BELL AVENUE DENTON, TEXAS 3 All qualif~ed voters residing in Single Member D~str~ct NO 3 shall vote at NORTH LAKES RECREATION CENTER 2001 WEST WINDSOR DRIVE DENTON, TEXAS 4 All qualified voters residing ~n Single Member Dlstrict No 4 ~shall vote at DENIA PARK RECREATION CENTER 1001 PARVIN DENTON, TEXAS SECTION VII The election officials for said run-off election on April 24, 1982 shall be as follows 1 (a) Don Pickens shall be the Presiding Judge at the Central Counting Station (b) Joann Garbacik shall be the Manager of the Central Counting Station (c) Marilyn Robinson shall be the Tabulation Supervisor at the Central Counting Station 2 Jo Luker shall be the Presiding Judge at the A~erican Legion Hall in Single Member District No 1 3 Doris Woodruff shall be the Presiding Judge at the Trinity Presbyterian Church ~n Single Member District No 2 4 Lee Knox shall be the Presiding Judge at the North Lakes Recreation Center in g~ngle Member Distr~ct No 3 5 Mrs Marlis Jordan shall be the Presiding Judge at Denla Park Recreation Center in gingle Member District No 4 6 Charlotte Allen, City Secretary shall conduct absentee voting under the Texas Election Code The respective Presiding Judge of each voting Place and the Central Counting Station shall be authorized to appoint a sufficient number of Clerks as they may deem necessary to assist them in said election, including bilingual assistants as required by law SECTION VIII Absentee voting shall be conducted by the Office of the City Secretary in the municipal building on East McKinney qtreet in the City of Denton, Texas, and the polls for absentee voting shall be open for voting in person between the hour of 8 00 A M and 5 00 P M Monday through Friday during the times allowed for absentee voting SECTION IX The City Secretary is hereby authorized to prepare the official ballot for said election and perform each and every act required by the Charter and laws of the State of Texas for holding elections SECTION X It is further ordered that the punch card electronic voting system adopted by Denton County be used in said election in accordance with the term and provIsions of Article 7 15 of the Texas Election Code The punch card electronic voting system shall be used for absentee voting in person and bv mall PASSED AND APPROVED
