AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, CREATING A "DATA
PROCESSING ADVISORY BOARD" AND PROVIDING FOR APPOINTMENT AND
MEMBERSHIP, PROVIDING FOR POWERS AND DUTIES, PROVIDING A
SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I
(a) There is hereby created a Data Processing Advisory
Board to be composed of five (5) members, appointed by the City
Council for a term of two (2) years, subject to the provisions
of subsection (b) of this ordinance All members of the board
shall serve without compensation Vacancies shall be filled for
any unexpired term in the same manner as provided for regular
appointments
(b) Unless continued in existence by ordinance the Data
Processing Advisory Board as appointed under the authority and
provisions of this ordinance is abolished effective January 19,
1984 Nothing in this ordinance shall be construed to prohibit
the City Council by ordinance from terminating the Data
Processing Advisory Board at a date earlier than that provided
in this ordinance
(c) The City Manager or his designee shall be ex officio
members of the board They shall attend meetings of the board
and shall have the right to discuss any matter that is under
consideration by the board, but shall have no vote
(d) Members of the board shall be residents of the City of
Denton
(e) At its organizational meeting, and annually
thereafter, the board shall select a chairman from among its
members Any three (3) of the appointed board members shall
constitute a quorum The board shall determine its own rules
and order of business The board shall meet at least once
bi-monthly and all meetings shall be open to the public and a
written record of its proceedings maintained Such written

record shall be approved by the board and filed with the City
Secretary's Office
SECTION II
The Data Processing Advisory Board shall have the powers
and perform the duties assigned to it by the City Council
SECTION III
That ~f any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence,
clause, phrase or word ~n th~s ordinance, or application thereof
to any person or c~rcumstances ~s held ~nvalld by any court of
competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not affect the
valld~ty of the remaining portions of this ordinance, and the
C~ty Council of the C~ty of Denton, Texas, hereby declares
would have enacted such remaining portions despite any such
~nval~d~ty
SECTION IV
That th~s ordinance shall become effective fourteen (14)
days from the date of its passaqe, and the C~ty Secretary ~s
hereby d~reeted to cause the caption of this ordinance to be
published twice ~n the Denton Record-Chronicle, the official
newspaper of the City of Denton, Texas, w~th~n ten (10) days of
the date of its passage

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO 82-09 TO EXPAND THE NUMBER OF
MEMBERS ON THE DATA PROCESSING BOARD FROM FIVE TO SEVEN, PROVIDING
A SAVINGS CLAUSE, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
W~EREAS, the City Council deems it in the public interest to
expand the Data Processing Board from f~ve to seven members, NOW,
THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I. That Ordinance No 82-09 is hereby amended to
expand the number of members on the Data Processing Board from f~ve
to seven members
SECTION II. That save and except as amended hereby, all the
sections, sentences, and clauses of Ordinance No 82-09 shall
remain in full force and effect
~ECTION III. That this ordinance shall become effective

EXTENT OF ANY CONFLICT, CONVEYING THE APPRECIATION OF THE COUNCIL TO
ALL CURRENT AND FORMER MEMBERS OF THE DATA PROCESSiNG ADVISORY
BOARD, AND PRESCRIBING AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTWE DATE
WHEREAS, by Ordinance 79-81, the Council of the City of Denton, Texas established a
Data Processing Advisory Board to provide leadership, guidance, and needed assistance to the City
Council m deemons lnvolvmg the selection, mmntenance and procurement of data processing
hardwaro, software, and services, and
WHEREAS, through its service to the Council and the citizens of Denton, the Data
Processing Advisory Board proved its worttuness over the nearly two decades wtuch followed,
prompting the City Council to perpetuate the Data Processing Advisory Board m Ordinances 82-09
and 84-06, and to rename it the Information Services Advisory Board in Ordinance 96-255, and
WHEREAS, as a welcome result of the dawmng of the Information Age, the computer
hteraey of the average layman has increased dramatically, such that concepts which formerly
reqmred specialized trmmng in computer science for basic understandmg are now well within the
grasp of the City Council and the majority of the citizens of Denton, NOW THEREFORE,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I That Ordmances 79-81, 82-09, and 84 06, wtuch created and perpetuated the
Data Pmeassmg Adwsory Board of the City of Denton, are hereby repealed, along with Ordinance
96-255 and any other ordinances in conflict with the purposes oft!us ordinance, to the extent of any
such conflict
SECTION II That the Council of the City of Denton, Texas hereby conveys its deepest
appreciation to all current and former members of the Information Services Advisory Board for
their loyal and dedicated service to the City Council and the cxtizens of Denton
SECTION III That this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and
approval
