1969-002AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING AND CREATING THE POSITION OF CITY
PARK RANGER AS A SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER OF THE CITY OF DENTON
TO BE APPOINTED, AUTHORIZING SUCH OFFICER TO CARRY ARMS IN
ALL CITI OWNED OR CONTROLLED PARKS AND RECREATION AREAS OUT-
SIDE TH~ CORPORATE LIMITS, PROVIDING THAT SUCH SPECIAL POLICE-
MAN SHACL NOT BE AN EMPLOYEE OF THE CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT, NOR~
BE ENTITLED TO ANY OF THE BENEFITS OF THE FIREMEN'S AND POLICE-
MEN'S CIVIL SERVICE ACT, ANB WHO SHALL BE AN EMPLOYEE OF THE PARKS
AND RECRE&TION DEPARTMENT, PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE, AND DECLAR-
ING ANDIEFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, in order to preserve the public peace and protect
the property of the Federal Government and the
C~ty of Denton ~n and upon public park and recrea-
tion areas outside the C~ty Llmlts it ~s deemed
necessary to provide a park ranger, with the auth-
ority of a peace officer, and
WHEREAS~ sa~d SPECIAL POLICEMAN shall regularly receive ~n
excess of Forty Dollars ($40 00) per month from
the C3ty of Denton for his serwces as Park Ranger,
and
WHEREAS, 3t is in the public interest and safety that the
aforesaid SPECIAL POLICEMAN be author3zed to carry
arms, now therefore
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS, HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTION I
That the pos3tion of Park Ranger of the City of Denton,
Texas, is hereby created and author3zed w3th a salary in excess
of Forty Dollars ($40 O0) monthly, to be established by the
C~ty Manager, and said Park Ranger 3s hereby authorized to
carry arms in the performance of h3s duties
S~CTION II
That such Park Ranger, as aforesaid, is hereby appointed a
"Spec3al Policeman" under the authority of th~s ordinance, and
shall, qn order to make such appointment effective, take an oath
of office in the form provided by the Const3ta~on of the State
of Texas and the Charter of the C~ty of Denton
SECTION III
That nothing in th3s ordinance shall be so construed as to
subject any such "Special Policeman" to the d3sc3pl3ne of the
Denton Police Department, or so as to create any rights or 13a-
bil3t~es for any such "Special Policeman" under the F~remen's
and Polllcemen~s C3vil Service Act, 3t being the purpose and
~ntent of this ordinance only to authorize such officer to
carry a~ms in the performance of his dut3es
SECTION IV
That if any section, subBection, sentence, clause or phrase
of this ord3nance, or the application thereof to any person or
c3rcums~ance is held invalid by any court of competent jur3sd~ct3on,
such invalidity shall not affect any provision or application
of th~s ordinance which can be given affect w~thout the ~nvalid
provision or applicat~on, and to this end the prowslons of
th~s ordinance are declared to be severable
SECTION V
That th~s ordinance shall become effective ~mmedlately
upon its passage
