1967-022 AN ORDINANCE REDUCING THE LEGAL MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT
TO 40MILES PER HOUR ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 35E AND
INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 35 MAIN TRAFFIC LANES FROM AVE-
NUE D TO U~IVERSITY DRIVE (A DISTANCE OF 2 3 MILES),
PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF, AND DEC-
LARINGANEFFECTIVE DATE
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DENTON, TEXAS~ HEREBY ORDAINS
SECTIO~ I
That the Maximum speed limit on Interstate Highway 35E and
Interstate Highway 35 ma~n traffic lanes from Avenue D to
University Drlve (State H~ghway 24), a d~stance of 2 3 miles,
shall hereby and hereafter he 40 miles per hour untll construc-
tion affecting any portlon of th~s highway is completed as
determined by this Council, after which time th~s ordinance
will be repealed and the heretofore existing speed limit re-
established
SECTION II
That anyone exceeding this speed limit without legal
excuse shall be gulllty of m misdemeanor, and a violation of
any provls~on of this ordinance shall be punished by a fine
upon conviction of any amount not exceeding Two Hundred
($200 00) Dollars
SECTION III.
That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in force when
the provisions of th~s ordinance become effective which are
~nconsl~nt or in conflict with the terms or provisions of
this ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of any such
conflict
SECTION IV
That if any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence,
clause, phrase or word of this ordinance, or application
thereof to any person or circumstances, are held invalid by
any court of competent ]urlsdlctlon, such holding shall
not affect the validity of the remaining portions of th~s
ordinance, and the City Council of the C~ty of Denton, Texas,
hereby declares it would have enacted such remaining portions
· n sp~e of any such lnval~d~ty
SECTION V
That this ordinance shall become effective fourteen (14)
days from the date of 1ts passage The C~ty Secretary ~s
hereby d~rected to cause the caption of th~s ordinance to be
published in the Denton Record-Chronicle w~thln ten (10) days
of the date of ~ts passage
